1982 Honda XL500

1 of two ridden to NZ by german tourists in the mid eighties, still had the orig. Metzeler tyre on the front, which has since been replaced by a still new bridgestone trailwing.

Very original good cond, came with large Acerbis Dakar tank(see photos).

Over $2000 spent on engine rebuild, less than 8000 kms ago, rebuild included:

New rod kit,
new piston
new valves,
new balance shaft chain,
new cam chain,
and new bearings.

The had been unused for the past 8 years, so the registration has lapsed. Also has a new rear tyre, new battery, and new decompressor cable ($58 from Econohonda).
Starts easily hot or cold, runs smoothly, mechanically quiet, pulls like a train.

I've sent 3 PE's, a 175, 250 and 400!! to the south islabd at about $300 each. but its a big job, and we dont do that anymore. you dont know anyone in AKL where it could stay? if you pulled it apart, cleaned it and got the indicators working it'd get a VIN. just came back from a ride, its awesome! now i gotta get a cheap a/c 2t!
