    Surviving the fight.................

Last month it was four years since my brother killed himself and with some of the threads posted lately I thought I would share his struggle with life and the system with you all ..............short version

    how a life changes

year 1988 aged 18 living life full and at the top of his game

he was affected with a brain stem infection being admitted to hospital with flu like symptons he quickely became a vegetable and spent the following 4 years learning how to walk again with the aid of a walking frame and learning how to live again

he brought himself a trike being the keen motorcyclist he always was and know he could never be two up again three was the next closest thing for his happiness

In 1993 going to sisters 20th he was run over by a logging truck while waiting at a intersection and being on his trusty trike he wore the brunt of it having his right leg all but ripped of meanwhile his pillion suffered bruising as a result of this his leg was removed... his left leg had 29 pins and plates inserted ..his arms and hands where bone grafted back together so this was the start of round two for a guy you loved life

over the next seven years he battled for assistanve just to survive he was independant and never took no for a answer (and was always having to be uprighted after a few beers )bless ya bro .........

after trying and trying again he decided if he was too live he had to make money as ACC werent any help (so he turn green finger but ended up burning his house down )but the point being how much does one person have to go thru to get assistance from the system

So Acc decided in 2000 when he was 30 that he live in a resthome was this really the best option for someone whom had been through so much too be surrounded by death on a daly basis after three years of resthome he decided he could fight no more and killed himself believing he was a burdon on the system
we as a family continue his fight as it has cost us darely both emotionally and financal and he was never a burdon too us just a brother and a son he was family

So often think of his life both the struggle he endured and the smile he wore..and that his pain is no more

and you thought you were having a bad day....

PS(bro I know your happy you have found your leg and are with bob and germ...and mr fixit) bro

Thats cool you can share that mate.
Dunno if its any help but your story puts me in mind of a verse(no idea who by)

    Our family chain is broken,
    nothing seems the same,
But as God calls us one by one,
    the chain will link again
"Not one day that we are here on this earth has been promised to us, so make the most of every day as if it was your last, and every breath ,as if it were the same"

Thanx for sharing that with us Dogs.I didnt know your brother but by the photos youve shared he truly had the most awesome smile! It is shocking the treatment that acc has given him and I know eventually they will be accountable for their neglegance and not supplying him with aids which would have given him a better quality of life.It sure has made me realise when I may be in my darkest hour that at least I am here with all the love and support and while I may be in physical pain" I wont let the bastods wear me down!!"(ol army saying)

    rest in peace

thanks for sharing dogs ... its a damn hard road we hoe at times but when you are constantly fighting the sytem it certainly can wear you down ...

thats why its important to always be there for your friends a problem shared is a problem halved .. even though you can not ease someones pain (as much as you want to) being available, supportive & they know that ur there for them can ease them through that dark hole

just read the other thread .. http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/sh...ad.php?t=28035 ......even though its an old post ressurected was definately insightful & with so many ppl been through the dark hole & still fighting it at times has been a blessing that ppl can be so open / honest & share such experience .. kudos to you all

It doesn't seem fair that one poor soul should have so many terrible things happen to him. I just hope he's at peace now. Thanks for sharing, my thoughts are with you and your family at this time.

Hey there Dogs. Very sorry to read your post. 21 years ago I lost my brother in similiar circumstances, and a week ago I buried my best friend. It hurts, and it's great to see you acknowledging your brother. And yes, our lost loved ones are still with us. Thanks.

Thanks for sharing Dog, I never knew your brother but he sounds a bit like my late brother. He had a huge number of setbacks but never gave up trying, he was killed by a drunk driver.
Really cool that you are still honouring his memory, loved ones live on in our hearts and memories until we meet again.
Peace to you and your family.

    Hey dog,
riding is for life - even if you stop.....the wheels never stop turning.
He will always watch over you - I'm sure.
