Waiotauru Hut - Day Ride (24 March)

Anyone interested in a day ride to Waiotauru Hut tomorrow? Short notice I know but if you're keen please get back to me.

Track is quite rough so suitable for dual purpose or off road bikes only. 16km from Akatarawa Summit to the hut itself through Tararua Forest Park. Could meet at the summit.

You'll need food, water, warm clothing, etc etc.

Track is regularly used by 4WD vehicles and other bikes etc.

Track should be dry as weather has been good (last weekend track was covered in large deep puddles).

    See: http://www.tramper.co.nz/huts/index....object&id=1781

if you would like I can ask my brother for the wellington 4wd clubs website - they list all the events for the weekend (that track is scary in a 4wd, give me a bike anydays)

Yes I've driven the track in a 4WD a few times. Been to the saddle on a bike once, last weekend. Would like to get to the hut and maybe a little further past it as well. Definitely less off putting on a bike : )

Hmmm well in case anyone is put off by the mention of cliffs and stuff, it isn't that scary on a bike. Honest.

no definately not - if its wide enough for pajeros and landrovers and the likes to make it over. I reckon i'd be fine even without any experience (just busy and no bike)
