first crash :-(

biking to school today,nice day so was enjoying the corners. eventually came up to a round-about and figured i should try and get my knee down for the first time (been soo close for a while now). anyway i got it down, yay! i read that i should be ready for a loud scraping sound of my knee hiting the ground, then i heard it, but turns out that the noise was my bike sliding on its side.i was so in shock that i didnt think that i was sliding myself and didnt know why i couldnt stand up!lol.but then i noticed a curb coming up fast so got on my back and slid away form it (i knew what to do thanks to reading the crashing forms in survival skills,recommended!). the bike stopped in the middle of da road about 20m away (i crashed right at a tagent to an exit luckily!) and a kind lady stopped to help me pick it up, then a few nice people asked if i was okay and offered me a ride etc. i wasnt suprised when the police man just drove straight past me, he looked like he was too busy performing his duty of giving out minor speeding fines rather than helping a troulbed motorist in need (his names officer phenton, the guy who goes round to invercargill schools talking to schoolkids, i wonder what advice he is giving to the next generation!). bad fairing damage, brake levers snapped off and i think that the radiators smashed too, if anybody has those parts then can pm me i they want to. i think that i just leant over too fast in putting my knee down, so if anyone is thinking about trying this out, id take it slowly!and in a carpark rather than a round-about, my bad! this was at the round-about at the north end of queens drive if anybody in invercargill is wondering

Knee down on the road! don't tell ya mum! well that sucks, my mate did that to his Ducati and it cost him heaps!! typical dumbarse cop! did ya bike break anything?

Well good on you for trying the knee down but maybe in a safer place next time,
the cop probably knew exactly what had happened and figured he wouldnt do you for careless so maybe be glad of that,

I agree - sounds like you got off light if he kept driving! Sometimes your pocket is better off when they turn the other cheek.

This is where my "old and sensible" streak kicks in - maybe you should do a track day and try these antics in the proper environment? Throwing yourself down the road is one thing; traumatizing the poor, unsuspecting motorist who runs you over is another

lol Low sides feel funny, keep getting lower until at one point you realize something is wrong lol. Did it on my FXR150.

Crashed that bike 4 times, and I never cracked a fairing lol

yeah i guess i am lucky that he didnt do me for it! yeah i cant wait untill the next track day at teratonga, if its not too expensive!
i figued out why i crashed, it has an aftermarket fairing, so when i leant enough to get my knee down, the fairing hit the ground which bucked me off

Bugger! maybe you can get some practice somewhere safer than a roundabout in traffic?
Glad you are ok, I would be more concerned with staying on it then getting the knee down at this point in time, patience makes good riding.

thanks. yeah was abit foolish of me, found a nice carpark but just had to try the roundabout first. i hope at least somone can learn from my mistake

Sorry to hear about that - I've had 2 low sides so far - didn't enjoy them too much, not as much fun as, say, a good solid kick in the head. Problem with roundabouts is that a lot of vehicles dump shit on them, diesels overflow, coolant, dirty water from air con etc. because they stop then go.

this means that although it looks like a really cool curve to get your knee down on theres not as much lateral grip as you might like to have!
