Wasn't sure where to put this one! Had a choice of General Bike, Cruisers, Rant and Rave or Jokes and Humour!
The weekend plans turned to custard somewhat and it became a bit of "What next?" I did manage a ride late Sat. arvo, though and the bike has now had its first service and running real sweet!
First problem arose while Mrs. Edbear was keeping eldest daughter and grandson company for the Fri. eve. while son-in-law attended the rugby with his mates.Daughter managed to get some Superglue in her eye and as it was 10pm and the local A&E was closed, the Missus rang to say she was taking her to the hospital. I said the van was low on fuel and she'd have to fill up which she said she'd do before leaving Takapuna.
She got home at about 1.30am complaining the van wasn't running right and she was afraid she wasn't going to get home! I'd just got the van back from Classic_Z's workshop and was scratching my head to think what could be wrong! Checked it out in the morning and it was definitely a sick puppy! Crawled into Tim's with blue smoke and chugging up the street, gpot out and cried to Tim, "I think my van's blowed up!" Had visions of blown turbo..!![]()
Tim had a listen and agreed it was very unwell. Checked the air filter as we both thought it seemed somehow strangled. No prob there, so he checked fuel filter. As he removed the fuel line, he said, "Hang on, that's not diesel, that's petrol!" Now our van is a Nissan TD27 Turbo- intercooled diesel and definitely does not run on petrol!Rang the Missus and innocently asked if she'd gassed up as she was going to and she cheerfully replied, "Yes! Put $20 of 91 in!" I said, "Darling, it's a diesel!" She went quiet. "Oh, that's right, so it is!" I said, "The fuel cap says, 'Diesel', dear..." She replied, "Well, it was 1am, it was dark and I'm blond! What do you expect?"
What could I say? Tim said just refill with diesel and you'll be fine in a couple of kays, which was true and the van is sweet again! (Have I mentioned Tim's a real good bloke?)
Daughter had to go back in to Auck. Hsp. for further check Sat. morn so we babysat grandson, (Loved that!), while they went. By the time we were free, wifey had a sore throat and headache, which she figures she got from work), so wasn't up to a ride late afternoon.
Took SH1 to Wellsford and back 16. Gotta go to work! Tell more later about the ride!
