While I didn't cross the line, I think the oncoming car driver looked a little concerned at the sight... not sure what the drivers of the cars I passed thought of the noise and sparks as I was a little busy making sure I stayed in my lane and on the bike at the time...

Traffic was pretty good on the whole and made it to Wellsford in fairly quick time.

As I was turning left onto SH16 at the Caltex I noticed a tidy blue CB1300 pulling over to stop opposite and gave the couple a wave. They gave a friendly wave back and I carried on. Stopped just up the road to check my phone and as I was about to get going again an immaculate two-up Moto Guzzi Cali in black slowed down to pass, giving me the thumbs up, guess to see if I was okay. Followed them at a good pace until the Kaipara Lookout when I stopped to take pics. Those Cali's are a nice bike and handled sweet two-up from my following vantage point!

I was in cruise mode, though and was dawdling along looking for more photo spots when the couple on the CB1300 cruised past. We waved to each other and they gradually pulled ahead. I pulled in to a rest area to take more pics to find them there just taking their helmets off. Introduced ourselves and I got to meet Jafar and his new bride! They'd got married the week before and were returning from their honeymoon jaunt up North.

Had a good ol' chat and we headed off home.

The Boulevard proved perfect for this kind of ride, relaxed so that I was happy poodling along at 90km/h checking the scenery and looking for photo opportunities, yet enough grunt to easily pass slower traffic at will and cruise at any speed I fancied. Handled well with a bit of movement in bumpier corners, not uncomfortable, but enough to know you were testing the suspension. In a wierd way, I found the slight weave rather enjoyable! Go figure! It would be completely unacceptable on a sportsbike!

The vibes were no problem and not intrusive after the first service, so whatever they did it worked and there really was nothing I could criticise apart from having to adjust to the lack of groundclearance after being used to the GSX-F and casually barrelling into corners at somewhat above the advisory signs. Still, now both left and right warning knobs are even again...

Lookin' forward to LOTS more riding!
Hehehe, edbear, been there done that also, petrol in the deisel (Patrol) trick(bummer), your last run sounds magic, must be a lot of Boulevard board pegs scored in the tarmac between AKL and Whangarei, heheh, gave us one hell of a fright when we first heard it, the missus nearly lept off the back

What a nice, simple, workable idea that is, well done.
But I think Edbear is right, someone would still find a way to screw it up.

Probably gonna be some more, too! The family is planning a trip up North later in April, all going well. We plan on doing the Waipoua loop and up to the Cape. There'll be at least one C90, our C50T, maybe two or more Softails and other cruisers! The Waipoua Forest is very tight and twisty! Not sure how we'll handle the gravel to the Cape, should be a lot better than the GSX-F which really hated corrugations!

The first time I scraped the boards, I nearly jumped off in fright! Startled me!

Hows the bike go on deisel?....sorry...

I remember the old man years ago filled his Honda Accord up at the farm fuel tank. Deisel into a petrol car! Mixture was over half/half.

Used to start it on LPG then switch to gas and smoke every where. Ran the whole lot through eventually. That Honda did way over 250,000 k's without a problem.

Did it the other way round with his Safari many years later. What a pain trying to get it out. No drain plug on tank!

You've got to laugh though eh Edbear?

Diesels generaly won't run on petrol contrary to what you would think,it being much more fammable (or is that inflammable, how can they mean the same thing?) But petrol will only burn over a narrow air/fuel ratio...14:1,too rich or lean and it won't ignite, that's why jetting our bikes is so critical. It won't burn in a diesel engine.

But I have seen it happen - on a Bedford truck an apprentice filled with petrol.I noticed the truck screaming around the yard and wondered what was going on....the driver drove it into the building next to my workshop bay,in top gear with the brakes on hard it was smoking the rear tyres...he then took it down to the stockpile and burried it into the metal, finally getting enough load on to kill it.I've only heard of it happening a couple of times since.A diesel won't run on liquid petrol, but if you squirt some down the intake it certainly makes them jump....you could over rev and blow one up easily. So I think this truck was more picking fumes up than running on liquid petrol being injected.I've had a couple of diesels take off on external fuel - scary shit man, they are ungoverned and will rev until they blow, and you are trying to shut them down right there! An old diesel man told me an ungoverned diesel accererates at the square of it's rpm per second - sounds about right....faster than you can run anyway!

With both diesel and petrol vehicles, three fuel cards and three PIN's including the work truck, and a slightly foggy brain, it could happen...! Don't think it would, but I'm very careful these days!

Was in a bit of a panic for a while, the thought of a blown turbo certainly got me going! But with a response like that from the Missus... well, the relief overshadowed the irritation anyway... I can get a bit more mileage out of the incident yet, too... Not often the hubby is in the pound seats, eh?

Sarah ( Ms phantom ) had the opposite problem with the pump attendant filling her petrol Pajero with diesel while she was inside powdering her nose. He was not very popular with her or his boss as it was off the road for the day

I look foward to the post on how it goes, we are off to Akl-Taupo-Wellington and back next week on a weeks ride so we havent planned any further ahead than that..
