    Re Course

hey Guys, firstly this is not a first aid course, this is a trauma/scene management course desgined for Bikers, it covers things like, scene safety, helmet removal, action plan, CPR, we talk about basic first aid kits, and hopefully dispell misinformation about liability issues. The course takes about 2.5 to 3 hours, I haven't spoke to the other two instructors yet, but from my own perspective nothing will happen before November.

The only reason I only ride in the Iron man Class is I have no friends left to enter the two man events,
    my own fault really.

    Its specific to bike accidents
ahh that would be interesting, only thing I assumed about bike accidents was if thier helemts are damaged dont take them off unless they werent breathing and dont move them unless absolutely required. heard of a guy getting his helmet taken off and thats when he died. only thing keeping him alive was his extra fibreglass skull.
actually might be a good idea to have a post that gives aleast a guideline of what the course tells u to do. You never know a minimum amount of information might help somebody help somebody

Without knowing the details of the incident you refer to it is hard to comment, however in many cases where helmet removal was performed and Rider died ,the extent of the injuries was such that this would have occured anyway. You are pretty much on to it re non or partial breathing, however there are other considerations, location(ie romote from emergency services) more than one casuality, or ir there is a chance of patient condition deteriorating, when we teach emergency helmet removal we normally teach it as a skill done by two first aiders.

A few years ago while off duty I attended a horrific Bike V tree high speed event, I was in my cage, and did not understand why the cars were stopped at the side of the road, I was in uniform and was flagged down buy one of the car drivers. Up on a bank not visable from the road were a biker rider and pillon. It was later claimed by the SCU guys that they had left the road at approx 170kph become air borne and mounted the bank, the rider then hitting the tree.

The rider had hit a large pine tree and had suffered horrific multiple injuries, his pillon was some feet away and had bounched off a 7 wire fence, the rider was breathing slightly and the pillon was non breathing.

With the help from a motorist who had flagged me down we removed both their helmets. The pillon began to breathe without assistance(CPR) the rider had been choking on his blood & stomach contents, whoever was able to gain some form of stable breathing with assistance at first.

This was in a rural area on a main highway approx 10 ks from the nearest small town, The rider lived for about 50 miniutes, but passed away before he could be loaded into the helicopter.

The pillon survived after many weeks ICU, this can be attributed to the skill & dedication of the Doctors and Nurses at Auckland ED, I meet the pillon many months later, with many months of treatment still to go, a long term future was positive.

It was intersting at the time of the incident, no bystanders would attempt to take off the helmets, and one guy even told me not to.

Every rider should have a basic knowledge of first aid, especially pertaining to motorbike accidents. The other thing we should all have is stickers prominantly displayed on our helmets saying "In case of accident DO NOT remove helmet" in the hope of deterring well meaning bystanders. If anyone knows where we can get these stickers I would be keen to get some - do BRONZ do them? Good on you for organising these courses. You guys will benefit immensely from them.

DB is the new Porridge. Cause most of the mods must be sucking his cock ..... Or his giving them some oral help? How else can you explain it?
