Apologies I wasn't able to attend - I was reading Social Policy most of the day (oh yay ).

Any chance someone could PM me with the directions on how to get to the memorial site? I've never been over there and would really like to pay my respects to Flyin'. Cheers CSL.

So you must have been doing about 20kph, cause no responsible KBer would be riding faster than 100Kph.

Unfortunately I couldn't make this ride, but I did reflect on the reason for it.

I've also been thinking...I wonder if the October ride I normally organise should become a KBer memorial ride to honour our fallen mates? Each of the major centres could put on a ride to coincide?

I'd be interested in others' thoughts before posting a separate thread.

Personally, Just my opinion, so don't shoot me for it anyone, I liked the October ride because it was like a celebration that the weather was getting nicer (OK, it rained last year, but it wasn't cold!) and a cheerful get together for us all to get our leathers out of the mothballs etc.
I think turning that ride into a memorial ride would take away a little bit of the "fun" of the October ride and make it a bit sombre, we could have another ride sometime later in the year maybe as a memorial ride??

More and more people who never knew Sam, UBruce, LBruce, Darryl will be along on these rides and perhaps the significance will diminish?

Well the whole reason I didn't come along on the ride on Sunday was because I didn't know Sam (or read any of his posts) and didn't feel like it was appropriate for me to go (not having a dig at anyone who went and didn't know him), just kinda feels like going to a stranger's funeral for the drinks and nibbles.

I guess I was in two minds about going, but I kinda thought that I was paying respects to a young guy that was learning to ride just before I came on the scene. Not sure what I mean

I'll admit that I was glad when Deano and J600 turned up since they had actualy ridden with Sam.

I kind of see it as paying respects to a fellow KBer. Even though I never knew him, I went as a support for those that did and the ones that maybe couldnt attend in person. I did have second thoughts about it, but I am glad I went.

I do agree that the October Ride should be kept as it is, a celebration of the summer weather ahead.

I had a few reasons for going. I know 2 other riders who have died at that corner. I may never have met Sam but he was a fellow rider and for me, taking the time to pay my respects is important.

I thought on Sunday that perhaps having a KB memorial day would be a good thing. A day for us to gather together, go for a ride and remember the fallen.

The start of December seems appropriate.

That sounds like a good idea to me.
