Hey there
I was wondering if anyone knows how a zxr 400 engine will fit into a 250 frame.
My mates done it with a GSXR 250 and it worked good,
Any info would be appreciated also anyone with an engine to sell be it 250 or 400????

Easier to just buy a ZXR400the ZXR400 is actually noticably bigger when you sit on it, PM aff-man, he knows the difference

See Robert Taylor for any Ohlins requirements www.northwest.co.nzThanks Colemans SuzukiThanks AMCCI use DID Chains and Akrapovic Exhausts
Thanks for the tip ,
ill give him a PM
Just that im still on a learners and want more power ya know, a sort of way to keep it legalish,
cheers guys
Ummm habn't got the PM. But the zxr400 is quite a bit bigger in size and weight. Many people didn't believe the 250 was a 250 but the sound and power showed. As for making a bike bigger well you can ask FF and some other guys the 250 had heaps enough power to keep up with them in the twisties you just gotta push real hard and keep revs above 12k.
as to putting an engine in, well i think you would basically either need a 400 frame or a hell of a lot of mods done cause it is quite different.
Aff-man is right on there, i had my old zxr250 thought i was fast on it, brought my old TLS got back on my 250 a few months later and i could've gone so much faster on it, they have heaps of potenial as a fast bike.Originally Posted by aff-man
If you want a 400 chances are it'd be cheaper and easier to sell your 250 and buy a 400. Half the time the 400's are cheaper than the 250's because the 250's are in demand for people on their learners and restricted and fetch a higher price.
What year zxr do you have? I reckon you should stick with it personally even now i'd still look at buying one for the fun factor, get some good rubber on it and make sure the suspension and brakes are top notch, and go scare some big bikes![]()

Or just go the way of the two strokes, RGV,NSR,TZR, if you want more power and stay legal at the same time, more maitanence for sure but you want the power? And again, good rubber, suspension and brakes and you can put the shits up many a big bike. Ask twosmoker he rides a RG150 and if he's not in front he's never far behind any of us............Originally Posted by Satch

Thanks for that advice guys ,
i think you are right it probably is more trouble than its worth especially when the 250 is really a pretty decent package. I just thought it might have not bin a major as i know its not to hard to do on a gsxr 250.
Think ill put that idea to rest for now,
ah well anyone know of a good 250 motor for sale? mines developed a horrible rattle which prompted the thoughts of conversion.
cheers
yip my mate had a theory that i stick by. You only need to go bigger (bike wise) when you are riding the balls off what you got. started on a vt250 and road it till i bent the crank and well needed something that would corner a bit better. Got the zxr250 and man it took me about a year before i was really pushing the nuts off i.e. going over the kopu's not letting the bike get under 13k and no chicken stripes front and back. But that has just been my experience.![]()

hmmmmm maybe you just need parts. If you were willing to do the whole conversion bits then maybe you might just need a rebuild. I am sure there are guys here that will lend a hand or advice. I bought a new vt engine for $800 and the zxr ones were more dearOriginally Posted by Satch

. Good luck though.
I'd suss out your cam chain--that might be all thats wrong with the 250

yip got the 400 one done on friday it's like an hour and a bit labour and if you don;t have it the tensioner kit costs $82 i think
Yeah well ive had a bit of a look at the engine aye the cam chain is fine as its still not tensioned right out on the original tensioner, all the valvetrain is good, when i run the bike on all 4 and systematically drop each cylinder the rattle doesnt go away so it cant be big or little end bearigs, yet the sound is like a real metallic sound, which leaves either mains or something to do with the pistons. Is it possible 4 the circlips holding the gudgeon pinin place to have broken and the pin be slapping around cuz thats wot it sounds like to me.????
you sure you aint got a buggered little end?
or maybee a valve stretched and just touching the piston
