Thers alot of people with RS and TZ 250s for sale at the moment. Is this becuase they don't have a class to race in at club level?
No its because they don't have a class to run in at national level. All clubs that I know of will let them run in F1 and F2.

For first year riders, yes. But you will still have to enter in advance.

Yep. the 2-stroke GP bikes are eligible for F1 and F2. read last years regs - that bit hasn't changed.

I guess it might be a bit difficult for newer riders to find some F1, F2 rules now that we do not have these classes at national level. VMCC runs Superbike(F1), Supersport(F2) and Superbike Lite(F3), Streetstock, Clubman and Post Classic etc classes to ENABLE riders, not to exclude riders and their bikes. I think that there is something on the www.vicclub.co.nz site with a list of class structures.

Superficially: Superbike: all bikes above 125cc that are fast enough to keep up with Superbikes (eg. 250GP, 600's, fast 450's, fast 650's, 1000's, 750's). Not restriction on mods really except no methanol, and no turbos. Go for your life, or chequebooks life. How about someone bring a Rotary bike?????

Supersport: Bikes up to 600 cc 4 stroke multi's, open single 4 stroke, 500 cc single 2 stroke, 250cc 2 stroke, 750cc 4 stroke twins water cooled, multivalve.

Superbike lite: up to 450cc 4 stroke multis, up to 650cc 4stroke twins, 125 cc 2 stroke twins, 750cc 4 stroke singles, 750cc 4 stroke twin 2 valve air cooled, 250cc 2 stroke singles.
Mods are generally open except for capacity.

If someone wants to spent $20 or $30k to win the VMCC series then go for your lives. If I was in that game I would probably rather spend that to win the national championship and therefore build an appropriate machine.

As mentioned earlier, some 250's for sale on TradeMe. Cheap bikes for GP race machines (you know I love 'em). Someone got the HEELLLLLL deal for the TZ-B in ChCh. Clean that up with new fairings and tacho and it will be sweeeeettttt.

Good on ya Tom. The cool thing about Formula 3 is that there will always be someone in the field for you to play with and have fun even if it is not at the pointy end.

A 400 (not a 450) can lap manfeild in 1:16's. That's fast enough to be at the front. Last year jarrod finished 3rd overall on a 89 400 and was consistantly lapping in 1:17/1:18. The 400s have advantages over the 650s in certain areas, you just got to use it.

remember with bike racing the rider is 80% of the game. and this is a CLUB series. we are trying to get as many people onto the track as possible (safely). This means that the rules are more flexible, so there's always going to be a variety of performance levels within a class. If you want a level playing field then we're talking about a 1 make series or something, but that would be based on new bikes that are currently available. and then people would complain that they'd have to spend money on a new bike. If you want to be competitive, then you need to be a good rider.

    Yeah hey Tom,
that's the attitude. just get out here and have some fun mate. I have to agree with what Jill said, F3 is wick as there is always some one to play/race wth. Esp. in the cub level it is a great and friendly class. People will really help you out. Don't worry about the money aspect. Just get your VFR out there mate. There have been some real talented riders whom have done great things on bog stock 400's. A guy down here in the sth island peddels a stock road ZXR400 so hard he could hold his head up high in the first three rounds of the nationals!! Also a KB'er 'two smoker' had what it took, tuning and running a 'stock-ish' zxr. Just go for it, it will realy come down to the rider, technique and training.
As far as the VFR goes, you can do a bit with that bike bro. Focus on the airbox and carb/needles. Check: www.400greybike.co.uk
Also a KB member, kwakakid, knows what to do with a vfr, you may want to drop him a pm

Have fun out there in F3
