Calling all GT250R owners.. service questions..

Just about to put her in for first 1000km service.

I've been pretty careful running it in, but taking in all different types of advice, have pushed her occasionally just to keep reminding her she can rev higher

Since I'm so new at all this bike riding, I'm not sure about things to get the dealer to check for first service. For the most part, it's been completely trouble free, but I could be missing something due to inexperience..

The flat spot in third that I've heard people talk about - would I definately know it if I felt it? Or is it something that possibly will eventuate after first service? Given that i've got an 07 model perhaps this was all sorted with this release?

Also, when I'm in neutral sometimes and go to shift down to first to ride off at the lights, even if I've shifted down cleanly as I've come to a stop to neutral, sometimes I need to release the clutch ever so slighty before shifting into to first. Is that a normal bike thing or should I get the dealer to check it out? It's intermittent, doesn't "feel" like it would be a major as it does click in fine each time, but would rather get it checked out now if it's a possible fault.

Any other things I should be looking at before it goes in next week - just wanna be prepared in case I don't tell them something is wrong, when I don't actually know something is wrong...

One thing to be aware of, My Bro-In-Law rides a GTR250R. He has noticed that on the odd occassion he has placed the bike in neutral and let the clutch out. The bike has shot forward on him. Even though it clicked in and even though it was indicating neutral, it was infact in gear. It's happened on his bike two or three times now. An easy way to drop your bike.

yep, read it when i got the bike. She's had some good sessions of snot blowing thats for sure, but I've gone easy for a while now just in case.. argh.

About neutral: 1. Yep it`s not easy to find. Sometimes it feels even "blocked" on first. With time you will feel "proper" neutral state by you foot.

Solutions:

1. I feel neutral behave better after 4000km oil change.
2. Always release you clutch carefully. There no situations to release it "sharp" under 30 km/h ;-)
3. After 4000 km you will use for those small GT inconviniences.

Yeah I have had the occasional incident with that aswell as you guys describe... its abit dodgy really. do you think it should be checked out by hyosung anyone?? or is that just bikes for you??

If you have a mechanic who relys on you tell them whats wrong do they pay you $60 or more / hr for the pleasure? Do mention anything that has been concerning you but your not a bike mechanic (safe assumption from the questions) so it's not your job to know, when your paying $140 for them to just "check" your bike they better actually take a gander at it I recon!

I doubt there is going to be a flat spot in 3rd, there may be tuning issues causing "flat spot's" on any vehicle but they will normally be at a point in the rev range as engine tune is the issue, the gear you are in should only multiply or divide the torque/power from crank to final drive, if one gear is sticky or underpowered that would be worth worrying about.

As for the clutch, it's kinda a bike thing, you need to have the bike moving if the teeth are in a funny spot and the Hyo's seem to have a funnier neutral than most bikes I've been on. In saying that it should be accessable and not impossible to find, if the engine oil is sludged up (old, dirty, overheated during it's life) shifting and clutch funtion will degrage.

LEARN TO DO YOUR OIL AND FILTERS YOURSELF AND DO THEM MORE!! Don't spend $200 on oil for the baddest stuff around and then leave it 15,000km's cos your broke, get a reasonable oil and factory (or better) filters and do them every 4,000km's, When you do the oil take the gause plate out of the sump and cleanit in petrol/kero then leave to dry properly, don't overfill your oil either. Still make sure a mecanic you trust see's your bike regularly too.

See you on the road a! Enjoy, stay smooth and your riding will progress, you can learn well on any bike, don't give the Hyo haters the pleasure, in saying that keep it good nick cos once you are used to it you WILL want more power!

I've noticed the false-positive neutral indication on a couple of bikes, mine included. I think it's just yet another case of the, on one hand, gloriously fast sequential gearbox, but on the other hand occasionally finicky when standing still. I'm willing to live with the downsides of sequential dog boxes (false neutrals between gears, difficulty getting in and out of the real neutral) for all their benefits.

Easy way to live with a false-positive neutral situation (I don't even have that, now -- often my neutral light ceases to work at all, so I just don't listen to it) is to just ease the clutch out very, very slowly. If it grabs and the bike wants to move forward then obviously you're still in gear. I rarely grab neutral while the engine's running anyway, unless I'm sitting at the lights for ages or I need to scratch my arse (need my throttle hand so the engine doesn't die).

I also own the GT250R and have been riding it for the last 5 months or so. I've noticed the same problems specifically changing gears to neutral. I've only experienced the light coming on when it wasn't in neutral once but have noticed that on occasion the bike won't go in to neutral from 1st or 2nd gear (which can get pretty annoying).

However, I've clocked up about 5000kms on it now and the problems have pretty much disappeared. It's not at all difficult to put the bike in to neutral, apart from the odd occasion (about once every few days) which I understand isn't anything to worry about. I've also just had it serviced (a bit over the recommended 4000kms) and it has been given a clean bill of health.

So wouldn't worry about it too much unless it really starts becoming an issue. Try riding it in a bit and see how it turns out. Bit of a disclaimer here, I'm a fairly inexperienced rider (still on the ole' L plates) so if anyone would care to comment on the above just yell out.

Service went well, no issues seemed to arise.

The flat spot doesn't exists I've decided.. either that or I'm just accellerating hard enough to never notice it..! who knows...

Gears... well, I think it is all about running these bikes in really - when it came back from it's service it always let me change into 1st from neutral everytime without releasing the clutch slightly. Now it's just finnicky - I need to coax her into goin down!

Sometimes just have to change up to second down to first and it seems to click. Who knows. Looks like it will get better as it's run in more.

I love her all the same. 2000kms now and loving every minute of it. However I had my first ride on a gsx 750 the other day and I know I shouldn't have done that yet mmmm... just a BIT more power ah ha...nice. Still, the hyo has been good to me so far. I still give her a tank pat and smile when i finish a good ride haha..

I have a 2006 GT on which I have done 30000km in 10 months so here is my 2cents worth:

The flat spot is supposed to have been elimanated on the 2007 models but there are still some around with the older cdi units in them.
I have had the cdi unit replaced and never had a problem since

Gear change: you usually find that it gets more difficult to select neutral as the next service interval comes round its because of the oil, the other thing it could be is that the clutch may need adjusting.
The gear change does "free" up as the ks mount up but you will notice a huge difference after you have had the oil changed
