Sunday Jaunt, 86GSXR, Dogsnbikes, U4ea & me (chanceyy)

Well after having tonsillitis over the last 6 days .. been hanging out to get out on the bike … Nurse Jodi would not let me have a weeeeeeee ride on Friday .. even 86 was gonna tell me off .. geezzzzz it was only gonna be a lil blat .. sighs .. but had a woodies instead ..

So was well behaved yesterday & did not ride but rock on today, Ironically felt better the last few days than I did today.

Seriously wanted to get over a hill today .. needed to get that one under the belt before easter .. so instead of the aka’s & taka hill (errrrrrr yeah right) settled for the Paihutua Track, Woodville & home over the saddle road.

Today was my first day riding in the wind .. so back off the pace quite a bit to get a feel, & must say did not feel real comfy til coming down the other side of the track .. then into the groove .. just before Woodville the wind was quite strong (that took a bit of getting used too)

Stopped at café over the bridge (nice place) & here the posse told me of my lil newbie mistakes .. like umm cutting jodi off .. sorry girl I know we discussed before leaving no kissing of bikes .. but did not see ya .. (hmm thought I was checking muh mirrors quite a bit, but guess not enough)

At the café decided to ride over the saddle road .. never been that way before ..well get round the corner & rain in the distance .. so stopped to put some leggings on & had muh first ride in a shower of rain .. 86 advised to just take it quietly & I followed him .. Lucky we rode out of it pretty quick .. but it’s a bit distracting with rain drops all over ya visor … & then loose gravel as well (did I miss it being signposted ??) well we rode outta the rain pretty quickly & a quick stop at the windmills .. (first visit up close)

Of course had muh lil whoops moment (sighs seems to be one every ride .. ) coming down on the Ashurst side on a sweeper .. a wee bit hot .. shit a car coming guess i stopped looking through the corner … back off speed & bike got a few wobbles .. back on speed lean a bit more .. hmmm lesson learned .. shakes the head .. concentrate).

Oh yeah had another wee opps moment heading up the track on a corner marked speed 25ks .. (first sharp corner) thought I had downshifted enough & looked well ahead of corner .. did not feel like I had a lot of speed on … but over centre line .. grrrrrr lucky no cars coming fr other direction did not make that mistake again

A pretty uneventful ride home, made sure we tooted as we rode past Cowboyz place ... (seen the green machine looking pretty there mate) felt great to be out & about, of course dealing with muh first hill .. first lot of wind & first shower of rain ..

easter , thanks to 86, dogs & u4ea .. great riding with you guys … thanks for ya patience

I am officially jelous. That's a really good wee ride on some of the best roads. The saddle road is primo because of the windmill lookout at the top but it seems that every tiem we go over it there is works/gravel on it. Seems like the windmill builderrs have to do that every time they put a new 'mill in to get the heavy-lift cranes and the trucks onto the site. Both times now have nearly been caught by no signs.

Good one for peeples to remember if going that way ... oh and yup, that's a great cafe too. Seems bikers flock to it too.

Yes, that was another thoroughly enjoyable ride, thanks guys!

I just love those corners from Shannon to Palmy, in fact the whole of that road down to Levin has some great cornering moments!

My only oops moment came as I took one of those bends pretty quickly and got a brief early gixxer headshake. This was due to the fact I'd inflated my tires slightly too much last week and had not got around to letting some air out of the front. Think I'll try 34 psi. The lump in the road didn't help either.

This was another reminder of the potentially lethal nature of doing what we love.

Scraped both sides going up the track, not something I'd intended on doing, but there you go.

And the more time I spend behind Dog's Triumph, the more I like them.

That gravel on the saddle is bloody dangerous as is fresh rain on a long time dry road. So be careful folks!

Thanks Chanceyy, u4ea, and Dog's, another great ride

No way you'd ever be snobbed Cowboyz If we hadn't been pushed for time we'd have stopped in for a cuppa!

Easter, what are your thoughts? Thinking of an overnighter up east somewhere.

well it was a cool ride .Had only been over the paihiatua track once by myself so it was interesting to see how the others took the corners.Chanceyy did neally cut me off but nothing a little wiggle of the bike to get myself outa the way didnt remedy! Its all in the learn mate and you did an absolutely WIKED ride for your first hills! The cafe was a cool spot and will be back! watching Chanceyy over take me on the sadddle road was a buzz!My confidence is still lacking (after a year and a half )Think the rain may have been a trigger and I slowed down big time through there. As far as road works there was NO sign coming from Woodville end .....All in all I am taking corners a lot better and really watching them at a distance, countersteering.Am trying to lean into them more if not even at a big speed but its getting me into the habit so if I get in trouble I can get out of it.Thanx team for your patience.Hurry home Dogs...cant wait to see the new bling on the triumph..86 your a demon and Chanceyy your getting better by the day......

hey fellow manawatu fellas and fellettes (?)
mighta seen you i think - i was coming back from napier (in a cage with the missus) but wished i was on the damn bike....nice weekend for a blat!!

I know what you mean about the saddle road, i've done 3 or 4 times and there's ALWAYS gravel up there somewhere

anyhoo...i took a different route through to napier on saturday - main road up to dannevegas then hook a left into route 50 about 10 mins afterwards - i guess some of you lot have been through there before? looks like a good ride, some nice parts at the southern end then a fair few straights but theres some great sections at the northern end....very nice
will have to keep that one on the back burner for a future ride

phil and I are talking about nipping out sometime over easter and there's a couple of others from palmy that will prolly be keen so if anyone else is planning a ride over the long weekend, post it up here and we can get together
