UK race license is 27 pounds ($73 NZ), so sounds like an NZ rip off to me.

Try Aussie - close to $400....

Ours does have some insurance components to it I believe.
But truth be told with what we all spend to go racing it's a very small %.

For some people it's less than 2 weeks fags or a night out, or a dinner for 2, a round at the pub, a 20k over speeding ticket?

Anyone actually sent an e-mail to them asking what's up with the increase?

Don't forget also, that price is probably for a National licence - do they still do the "Club Licence" that was introduced a couple of years back, which was cheaper.

I'm quite happy to write the cheque as the team there have always been really helpful when I've needed anything in the last few years.

It's still fairly cheap as they work hard to let us all race here in new zealand.

I don't think it's too expensive, still cheaper than a national car race licence.

    MNZ licence

The cost of a licence is going up but MNZ are removing rider levies , this may mean sod all to most riders but it will tack some work load off clubs and hopefully allow them more time to get on with organisig more events for us to play at, and any way its still dam cheap to race bikes compaired to many other motor sports. the new cost is less than half a front tyre , sounds cheap to me.

Yep, still pretty cheap. The idea is to get value out of it buy using it.

Challenge: First rider to fill a logbook in a calendar year gets a prize. Maybe a bottle of water or something??

The removal of 'riders levies' is a good thing. They are a hang over from the old days. Riders levies, for those who only go and ride and never organise anything (dig, dig, wink, wink), were a fee paid by an event organiser for each participant at the event and was effectively the insurance contribution, or general contribution. So it meant someone had to do paperwork after the event and send money to MNZ. Doing things after the event is never a good idea, everyone is looking forward, not backward.

Anyway, this new system seems to mean that events will be that little bit more streamlined, and that the rider levy part has been transferred to the riders. You previously paid it anyway in the entry fee, but paid it each time, rather than once.

And don't forget the insurance your license provides in the case of injury or worse. In the UK I think you need to have personal injury insurance nowadays as the NH is getting picky about what they want to fix (but don't quote me on any of that). In Australia the insurance situation was so bad a few years back that no one would insure MA. This meant that MA needed to underwrite their own insurance, which meant having $1M (or more, not sure) CASH sitting in the bank! If MNZ needed to do this our license would be at a similar level.

    Enjoy :-)

    Steve,
does this mean entry fees will go down? Ha Ha lol. In the UK you don't need personal injury insurance but part of the reason entry fees are so high is due to the cost of public liability insurance and of course the greed of track and club owners but that's another story altogether.
Let's hope NZ stays just the way it is. You have to be serious to motorbike race in the UK and Oz cos you're gonna end up broke if you don't get to the top!
It's cheap an therefore FUN to do in NZ - long may it continue.
