    Blah War of the Worlds

    War of the Worlds

A classic radio story, about martians invading Earth. When it was originally aired in England, and America it was taken seriously and many people actually thought martians had landed on Earth. Released on Record (4 sides), later a movie was made, then the americans got money hungry again and made their own remake based on the classic book by BRITISH author H.G Wells. The Americans, as with everything they envy, tried to make out that it was all their idea in the first place! *typical*

    I prefer the old record.

    So which do you prefer?

I vaguely recall hearing it as a radio series when I was a young'n. (clarification: that was in the late 70's)
Same station did the hitch hikers guide to the galaxy too.

Other than that I have listened to the CD several times.
Didn't think the Tom Cruise movie version was worth the $8 it cost us to hire it for the night and was quite glad I didn't shell out for a night at the movies to see it.

HHmmmm, read the story a long time ago.....kinda like the new version, some bits seem to follow the original story well, though some are well off the target....liked the pommy version too, but again, not real faithful to the original story...
Also Like the original radio broadcast version, lets ya see it in your own way......without all the tacky special effects.

Exactly! Alow the imagination to run wild... The Goon Show was precisely that.

As to WotW. Have only listened to it on LP.

I think it was 4X0, was Dunedin based and we lived in Queenstown at the time. I remember sneaking a transistor under my bed because I supposed to be sleeping.

Goon show was another classic, very very clever guys.

I have the original LP, with all the inlays with the drawings etc. My parents used to play it on the odd sunday afternoon in the study when we were in England, very fond memories! As a child I remember watching the original movie on tv and finding it very scary!

H.G Wells is a fantastic british author, and was a shame most people have only ever seen the american movie - which in my opinion took the heart out of the entire storyline.

    The Jeff Lynn version ??

I take it that that is the record version? Only ask that as me dear ol' ma n pa had it on tape, a while before CD's came out. Problem with making any movie from a big book, or even a double LP record set, is that you've only got so long to hold the audience. I liked Narnia The Lion the Witch & the Wardrobe movie as I've never read the book and I'll go and see the next one as well. Same as Lord of the Rings, never read the books but enjoyed the movies. People I know thought a lot was missed or glossed over in the Narnia movie but I still liked it.
If you can't be a good example, be a horrible warning

Fond memories along with Moody Blues...
