Rear sets and high bars?

Quick question-
Do rear set foot pegs and high bars 'work'?

I'm making some minor mods to the Monster. The pegs are too wide and so are the pipes. The pipes touch down too soon, looking at pics I'd estimate its happening at around 45° of lean with me on board- right on the MNZ rules depending on how you interpret them. YES I am hanging off enough.

I'm in the process of mocking up some peg brackets before getting them made, and while I can move them IN a fair bit, I can't move them UP at all as I wont get my knees under the cutouts on the tank. So I'm thinking of moving them in, up and back, but I'm wondering if that would be a mistake.

Anyone had experience with this?

You'll be fine, but add a couple of inches to the seat height or you won't be able to move around very easily.

Thanks Jim. The only reason I'm dithering about it is because the position of the pegs will effect the routing for the exhausts

Maybe try jacking the arse end up.

How you hang off also has a huge effect on how low the bike goes down...

Que Jay... He hangs off like a spider. play with different methods of hanging off, if the boys on CBR 250s with rooted rear suspension can (eventually) figure out a method of turning without dragging footpegs, I am sure it can be done on a monster.

Otherwise rear sets etc are great, but don't necessarily make the ride more comfortable. I ended up having my rear sets set as low and forward as possible. Centralises weight better, and helps with braking and using body weight to steer.

The arse end has been jacked using the bolts on the ends of the rocker-arm-yoke-whatsit. Some pople get special threaded spacers made up to lift them even more, so I may end up doing that. In addition, Robert Taylor has fitted Ohlins springs to the OEM forks and shock, so it's not a typical saggy Monster. And when I hang off I aim to hook my outside knee over the seat (so my bums all the way off) and my inside shoulder ends up about in line with the inside bar- so I guess I'm hanging off a fair way, although I'll admit I often don't quite shift myself over as far as intended.

The rear problem is the way the thing was made. I was parked next to an 02 900SS at SOT, and my pegs STARTED about 3/4 of the way through his pegs. they've done it to make room for the pipes, which are low and really wide.

Why not go to the cause of ya problem---the pipes--get em raised propperly then start again with the pegs

Get someone fast to ride it as it is , when you can match their lap times then start looking at modifcations

Tony, I picked up a cheap set of aftermarket rearsets as spares for my bike. They are non-adjustable and are 3/4" back and 3/4" higher than the originals. The adjustable jobbies offer all sorts of positions but most fixed aftermarket styles are exactly as you are after, further back and further up.
