    Contact www.pickapartNZ.com
Their closest yard to you is in Tauranga but they can contact the other yards in AK and wellington. If they have one it will be cheaper than anybody else in the country.
    Don't say Jack sent you,It won't help.
    Good luck.

    Hmm tempting

I actually managed to drive it back to my place which fortunatelly is just down the road. So isn't totally stuffed but definitely wasn't engaging properly. So will try and sort something out.

Dave --can ya be a tadd more precise.
Do you have to wiggle the gear change lever to make it go into gear -once in it drives fine?
Or do you have to rev it up to get it to move.
or does it like EvENTUALY seem to find drive but pull away in what seems to be too high a gear?
When you put it into reverse does reverse gear work normally?
Your problem was bugging me -then I remembered having a mpv once that I couldnt get up the driveway at work--yet under way it was fine
The tourque converter had glugged up.
    What you can do is
1-look under the car for a pool of red (possibly by now burnt brown) oil
itll possibly only be drips by now or hand sized,
2)check the oil level in the GEARBOX -att he same time check the color of the fluid.

Sheesh! These Jap autos cost a lot to fix! Full rebuild on my F100s C-6 was $1,100, included new splined section in t'convertor.

Heres hoping you find the mythical 'cheap-fix' - low fluid or similar.

Yeah, well thanks to the good old consumer and their bitching and moaning you won't find a reptuable repairer who will go in there and fix the one component faulty as Frosty says - it's a full rebuilt with every last thing checked and replaced with a full warranty. In the good old days when it was BW35s Trimatics and C4s we would pull them out and fart around, pull a bit of crap out of the valve body maybe(Trimatics with loose nylon dodads),do a clutch pack or band.Nowdays the consumer has so much power they can kill a good company dead over one job.Now a full overhaul is all that's offered.

Yeah, if its anything like my galant, you'll be looking at $2500-3k for a box rebuild or $5-6K for a new one. Bummer

Mate ill Pm ya a crowd thats pretty good -they do a lot of warrantee work
ya know what warrantee companies are like-only fix it if its broke.
Their work is very good. so far ive only had one hickup and to be honest they fixed a clearly faulty part and missed an intermittant fault.
turned out to be a ball of cotton waste blocking up the tourque converter.
actually its funny you should say that cos a customer just tried to hit me with a $300 repair for carb repairs-The carb shop had reco'd the carb
The car had a lil misfire which was a blocked jet -carb shop wont once in there leave any worn components alone they replace em even if not faulty

Thanks Frosty,I am never too happy to send people away by just saying your cars stuffed, you can't afford to fix it,now just get it out of here and go cry somewhere else.Another option is handy.I don't mind doing a rough job,but don't want comebacks for helping someone out.On that note...I've just fitted a second hand dual mass flywheel and clutch to a blue 95 Surf from NP,parts supplied by dealer - look out for an intercity transfer

I had another look tonight and checked the fluid level while the car was in neutral and the fluid level is low which sounds promising so I'll try topping that up and see if that fixes it.

    Thanks for your help

    Nooooooo

Just rang the auto place where I managed to take the car in. And they said it's quite major Stripped stuff in the torque converter which has caused the intercooler to get stuffed as well. (Not 100% sure). Looking at 1700+ to get it fixed.
