ELF Moto Brake Fluid Dot 5.1

I have a bottle of this stuff here at home, unopened and new. I initially bought it for my cage, however I sold that and now the gsxr needs brake fluid replacement, and high performance brake fluid would go well on the bike.

Has anyone used this fliud before? It is NOT Silicon based but is fully synthetic. I had a look on their website, and it days 'for all brake types', however has anyone used this stuff before? the last thing I need is perishing rubber hoses and seals.

i use 5.1 on the 636. Used to get real bad brake fade, and this helped a little, and I just like the better feel, just a little harder on the feedback. Some people say stay away etc, but I've not had any problems. I change it every 6 months too, or when the resv looks like it's going dark.

Just make sure you drain all the old fluid out when replacing it with the 5.1, since they don't mix, by just running 5.1 thru until it comes out clean, then keep going a little more

5.1 will be fine in a GSXR. The people that say to stay away have no idea what they're talking about, and it's quite helpful them to stay that, cause now you know to disregard anything else they say about brakes

They'll mix fine, but you should be replacing all the fluid in the system as a matter of course anyway.

Indeed, will be a complete replacement of the fronts, rear fluid can wait, it still feels fine.
I am not just trying to find the energy to change the fluid...feel more like going for a ride with the weather this nice.

Yep,5.1 is good stuff and can mix with other fluids no problem....but you need to flush the old crap out anyway.I only use 5.1 in my bikes and my container was opened years ago - so it went into the Pajero fuel tank....

It's not how the brakes feel that denotes whether the fluid is ok or not.....battery acid could give you a good feeling brake too.You are changing contaminated fluid to prevent damage to the system.

Silicone fluids don't have the performance of glycol fluids as far as lever feel goes - they're actually slightly compressible which is the last thing you want when you're hard on the anchors after a cage doesn't see you and pulls out of a sidestreet.

DOT4 or DOT5.1 is what you want with regular (annual) changes. DOT5 is the only silicone based fluid - the rest are glycol and can be mixed if absolutely neccessary. Although it would make sense that a DOT5.1 following a DOT5 silicone fluid would also be silicone based, that is not the case.
