    Mokihinui...West Coast...Bike dead ride...

After many .....I'm going..... I'm not going, due to weather reports I sat watching dad pack his bike up on Fri morning. My poor bike who would be leaving me in a couple days for the shop(lord knows how long for the insurance work) was calling me....ride me....common....last rally...u know u want too....and I decided bugger it...OK I'm going. (Something about watching someone pack their bike up makes you wanna ride.) After getting a yelling at for being indecisive...and making him late we left round 12 in great weather.

Had the new IPOD going listening to some Seether and Godsmack, feeling great, had my baby blue and white leathers on which after 4 months actually fit me, so Im feeling protected and more confident....dads actually being a speedster and leaning his Harley like its a sporty, weathers great and were humming along scenery is awesome and I'm ready to ride...

"this is what I love about riding"

    THEN

    2 and a half hours climbing a hill 12 k from spring junction.....stutter....loss of power....splutter....no power F@#K

Pull over...bike turns but wont spark....like theres no gas. 4 bikes pull over have a look and agree with each other that its petrol. "Guarantee your outa gas....." I appreciate the input and it very well could have been that but I'm not just a girl in blue leathers. I know my bike....theres no way I'm outa gas. I know how far my bikes tank will go and if any ones ganna run outa gas it will be the Harley and I know when my gas light comes on.

Short story...dad rolls back then goes and gets gas. Cause were both thinking nahhhh but but hoping it is. Meanwhile I am getting eaten ALIVE so I'm on side of the road in 30 deg with all my gear on gloves on and neck warmer over my face grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. Trying to stop the swarms off sand flies eating me.....grrrrrrrrrrr....Wishing sand flies were wiped off the planet....wtf are the here for anyway wtf do they do?

So gas goes in bike still wont roll over and theres no cell reception to call AA. Poor dad goes again to springs while I try not to cut my wrist to avoid feeling the sand flies eating me. 3 hours later dude turns up and offers free ride to Springs junction or 350 tow to CHCH. Its getting late so I say F it take it to springs and I will come get it next week. Got on the back of dads bike grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr this sux and tried again to get to Mohkinui.

10 mins later its getting dark, mist, fog and torrential rain great us through the gorge and for the rest of the trip. You cant see 5 feet ahead of you and barley see the white lines....LOL Im so freaking out not being in control and trying to lean on the Harley and do the gears and brake on pillion foot pegs like I'm still on my bike.... I'm going insane so I spend the rest of the trip with my neck warmer over my face so I cant see.

PS My feet are soaking and I know why I have never ridden in the rain before.

We thankfully had a Bach in Mohkinui, shower, change clothes and off again...apparently due to dark, mist, fog,no signage and presumption pubs on main road we end up half way up a mountain and I'm starting to feel like I'm about to be in a SILENT HILL movie sequel We eventually turn around again and find it about 2 k away from Mohkinui and we just wasted 45 mins riding and were both soaked again and theres a sign says .....no gas for 95ks

So we're there. Friday night looks a little dull. Not much happening at all. No band...Rallys actually only Sat night. The sight looks muddy already and I'm thankful were not tenting. Getting in the rally because of the mud is a task and most are opting to park outta the tent site and park up and carry the tents in. Meanwhile the rest wait watching to see who's ganna come off.

Sat the poker run was to the coramandel(?) but I'm not on a bike so I pass and read a book on the beach and the river at the same time. What an awesome spot.....the sun fades and rain sets in. Don't know if they even went on the run but it hosed down. Got to the site round 6ish and saw CCR always nice to see a nzsber and have a chat. Meet Steve Josh and I forget other name (sorry tired) also nzsbers......you guys never turned up so either your tents stayed up or you were to written off to ride...either way both sound good. Hope u guys had a safe ride home.

Rate the rally a 6 and a half....good bands small but cool crowd. Rally site was a bit small but many I think didn't come cause of the weather. So was good size for turnout. Cheap food lots of grog but prob coulda done something bout the mud. I would imagine leaving Sunday morning through the mud would have been a challenge. The river locals and scenery make this rally worthwhile...the ride on a nice day would be awesome and I will do the ride again just for that (never saw a thing on the way up)

Sunday the sun came up and left when we rode out. Soaked through the gorge till about 20 mins outa springs. The good thing is it wasnt "cold rain" and after all it is the west coast.

Summary....My bikes still at springs so Ill have to rent a trailer....drive up prob weds and get it. F#$%@$ The guys a wanker....I said to him so if I come up can ya help me get it on and tie down.. "I wouldnt count on that...were pretty busy" So that will be fun......

Asked around and general opinion is that its the fuel pump and 450 for the part......sighhhhhhhhh

Important thing is.....will I do it next year......Hell yeah, its one of those gotta do rallys..... As quoted correctly on kiwibiker think its nzsber too fra-que

If ya didn't go to this one, then you missed somthin!

If ya did go, then hell, you would almost ask why!!!!

Anyway, good write-up (almost TOO good about the rain, just about put me off going to that rally ever!)

Bummer about the scoot - here's hoping it is just a bad connection or something else that doesn't cost $450!!
