Is it always hard to make new friends?

I have now been in Napier for two weeks now I'm starting to think about whether this was the best move for me. I know its been a short time but I'm getting pretty bored. My problem is that I'm pretty shy unless alcohol is involved so I find it hard to just rock up to people I don't know. I'm not the sort of person that goes to the pub by themselves and also my workmates are a little standoffish to the newbie.

I don't drive or ride just yet but am working on this. Does anyone else ever had a problem feeling like they don't fit in in a new city?

Been there done that. Hooked up with the Local Kbers in the towns I've been and a few from other towns, problem solved. Always have mates to visit no matter where I go now.

People are not going to seek you out - you have to at least make the 1st move. What about joining a club or a gym or a volunteer group?

Took us a while when we moved but we said hat thre would be NO turning back for two years - then we would decide. Still here but yeah Napier? Hmm.. I dunno, tramping club, kayaking? Art?

    Heya,

Yep it's pretty shit moving somewhere until you've got a circle of mates. Just send out your feelers for who the local Kbers are, I know Yungatart is in Napier, Mstrs & HXC and I'm sure they'd have you around for a blether and a cuppa. There's a Wednesday ride in Napier (I know you've not got wheels but could invite folks over afterwards for a drink/cuppa etc).

Good luck with making mates, it will happen, maybe not straight away but it will - just get out there and meet folks either online or in person.

Yep, when I moved to Wellington, the job I had involved working with a lot of people older than me, so didn't have much in common to be able to make friends, different interests and stage of life etc.
I seem to have picked up a few good mates from each different work place I've had, which is cool, but it's just not like the mates you make at school, eh. I miss not having mates that you just pop round to their place and stay all day and get on the turps with and talk utter crap type mates, but maybe that's got something to do with growing up! (something I have trouble with!)
It can be hard to make new friends in different towns once you've left school I reckon. Are you into any kinds of sports or other types of hobbies? Sometimes finding common interests with people is the way to go, and often this can open you up to a wide variety of different people. KB is also great for making new mates with a mutual interest, so there's always something to talk about, and then you find the people you "just click with", people on the same wave length.
    Good luck doll!

I belong to the local dart club up here but they are just like my workmates, a little skeptical about talking to me.

I've just done this. Still trying to increase my circle of friends..

The local KBers help, and try taking up a few things you've never done before. Shooting club, racing...

    Be confidant too.

Dance will help you find some of those feminine thingies too. I took up salsa dancing for a few months ago and have some great friends from that.

If you've got bike gear, rock on up to our rides on Saturday at BP Taradale Rd at 1.30...we are the friendliest bunch around...someone will have a pillion seat for you for sure....

Have been meaning to do that, but that's where the shyness stops me. Might have to bite the bullet and just turn up on Saturday week. If you see a shy looking chick lurking around with a Helmet and Jacket that would be me hehehe

Putting out a feeler can work real well...we responded and Stickchick just rocked on up and it turns out that she boards? with a friend of YT's, just around the corner from us.
Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?
