If it's not your bedtime yet (as it is mine), head back and read the short story by Isaac Asimov I posted a link to. It's a good 'un, and it was the source of my signature.

That story, in and of itself, could prove to be the source of stimulating discourse...

And nobody gets a fish, because I got tired of waiting, and posted the answer myself. But I know *I'd* rather have a chance to read The Last Question for the first time, again, than any mere chocolate fish.

    Enjoy.

A bit too subtle, I think... linking evolution and God like that.
I just don't believe in your version of God, Zed. I thought we'd covered this already.
Now, blasphemy is an interesting concept. Remind me to demolish it for you some time.

Well Zed I see you're still at it. I thought all this was in the Religous ravings thread but since it has become so boring you have taken it upon yourself to continue your preaching to us. Now what was the question? Ah yes something about living forever and why we want to. One of the interesting thing about this subject is the number of religions that espouse this theme: eternal life. Another thing that you may find interesting is the number of religions that have one God. These are two concepts if I may use such a term are also central to Christian belief. Perhaps if you come to an understanding with yourself (god dwells within you and not the bible) you may one day acheive enlightenment, then you will truly know the truth and not wast your time, my time or anyone elses time with your nonesense.

Well put Skyryder. Zed,why is it you shy away from proper debate in the "Religious Ravings" thread yet still hijack other threads with your rants about your beliefs?
There`s already a well-established thread for this sort of discussion, all you`re doing is pissing people off who want to discuss another topic here, stop running away and we`ll discuss it in the proper place, Spankme accommodated your bushwacking of a thread in that case to give you a place to air your views, is it really fair to then do the same in another thread?
Back to the original subject, I dont know about living forever but being continually reincarnated with a clear recollection of your past lives would be neat, kind of like "Groundhog Day" only you`d hopefully use all that experience to live better and contribute more. Imagine starting out in adult life with all the worldly knowledge of a 40-year-old only without all the hassle and trauma that most of us go through on the way to getting that. I`ve crashed through this life like a bull in a china-shop and another go with the realisation that I have now from the start would be really neat.

Live forever? In this crazy f**ked up world? The sooner the next meteor hits, the better.

No, it all makes perfect sense if you've read Asimov's short story, 'The Last Question'.

The full text is available at http://www.aronson.co.il/adin/TheLastQ.htm. A highly recommended read.

[Edit: Of course, if you *haven't* read it, my signature rather spoils the story. Perhaps I'll change it.]
Will read at some point. had a glance.....that little bit more info makes a
difference to gaining a chokky fish

    A very good extrapolation.

Unfortunately, that's my *changed* signature. I removed the quote from 'The Last Question', because it would have spoiled the story for new readers.

Perhaps I should let another chocolate fish competition run for whoever can place *this* quote. It's not Asimov.
