Fixing or replacing a buggered sidestand?

Hey guys and girls,

After being bent a couple of times (from hitting the deck) my pin on the sidestand has broken off (after attempting to straighten).

Anyone good at welding? Or know where to get a replacement 2nd hand RG150 sidestand. We've improvised in the meantime with a bent nail and duct tape.

Any ideas - huh pleeeassse. Bit of a bugger trying to put your sidestand down without a pin.

I presume this means the bit you hook your boot on to flick the side stand out.

I modified my side stand because the pin was too short and I couldn't get my boots near it to flick it out. We hacked off the original pin and then cut a steel rod (about 1cm diameter x 10cm long) and welded it to the side stand.

Actually I can see why it'd be a pain in the arse not to have it, it seems to be tucked away quite far under the frame.

Deliver driver at work is this suicidal maniac on a scooter (well, he sold it now). He's this tiny little Vietnamese guy who was scraping the floorboards on every corner -- fastest deliveries ever. However he was also scraping the sidestand, eventually it broke off. He went to Coleman's, and they told him to go to some welder guy on the North Shore, Barry's Point Rd I think. Cost him $40 I think, and that was welding the whole stand on, not just the little pin. I take it you still have the pin? I'm off work at the moment, but I'll give him a txt and see if he remembers. If not, go to Coleman's Suzuki.

Problem solved. Drilled a hole where pin used to live. Used a 5M Tap to create a thread. Put a plastic collar on a 5M bolt and threaded the bolt into the sidestand.

wot he said.. tho I would probably make the new pin a wee bit longer in the thread so you can fit a lock nut ...
