    Question Travel Insurance

    Gday all.

MissSniper and I are taking a well deserved holiday to Aussie at the end of July. Plan is to spend a week doing Brisbane and the Gold Coast and then a week going bush in the NT as well as spending a few days on Groote Eylande . I did have plans to take my rifle, but mum says the cops there have offered me the use of some of theirs if I want to go hunting with them. I cant find out what they are and Mum just says they look nasty so hopefully they are something worthwhile.

Because of the travelling involved, would it be worthwhile taking out travel insurance or would we be safe enough just winging it. This being the first overseas travel I have done by myself where I have had to organise everything, Im not sure if its worthwhile or worth it. Any advice?

    Insurance is your friend.

    Need an ambulance?

You'll be looking around $800 ... that's just to have it turn up...

aussie is prob the 1 country where you don't *neeed* insurance, but if its not to expensive why take the risk?

We went to AUS beginning of the year and I found Southern Cross the cheapest and easiest Travel Insurance to get, around $80 for 2, compared to $250 from AA.
Will also cover late cancelletion of holiday due to illness, family problems etc so well worth it. It can be really expensive in Aus to see a doctor even.

Even though NZ & Aus have a reciprocal health agreement, whereby you get looked after, you should still take travel insurance because there are plenty of other things that can cost heaps. (eg you could get sick or injured and can't fly. Can you afford to stay there until you're well enough to return). Or as Donor says, you may get treated for 'free' but that's a good whack to get picked up by the ambulance.

Then there's all the other benefits, lost luggage, emergency dental, death, travel cancellation, Hire Vehicle Excess Buy-out...etc, etc.

For the few bucks it will cost, you may have to forgo a few Lattes but most other problems will be taken care of.

Always take out travel insurance it is so cheap. Peace of mind has no price and you are covered for most things that can happen to you whilst overseas.

Absolutely,You never no when the worst is going to happen. While in Brisbane a freind asked me if I wanted a game of tennis, ye I said, went for a ball down the line and put my back out. If I hadn't have had insurance the rest of the Holiday would have bin shit.

Do you have a credit card?
If so, see what they offer. I know that my visa provides free insurance (somehow). I haven't used it but the bloke at the bank said look into it when you travel next.

I came across this company through Lonely Planet. I think it's good for ease of renewing, i.e everything is done online.

(Disclaimer:This is not a personal recommendation as I've never had to claim with them, so don't actually know what they're like when it comes down to the nitty-gritty).
