A few days away on the Busa
After offering to put Jantar up for the night before the Southern Cross I decided to take the four days off & have a few days away on the Busa without any serious plans.
Sunday 22nd I headed south to meet Malcolm & estimated we would meet around Waverley, getting it to within 5 mins. A casual lunch there before heading thru Hawera to Tawhiti Museum.
Anyone visiting the area should take this in as it's probably the best theme'd display of history around.
We then headed up to North Egmont to admire the view from North Taranaki Bight around to Ruapehu & friends.
A back roads entry into New Plymouth before checking bikes for the week ahead and catching up with a few other KBers for tea, drinks and MotoGP.
Monday was out to Okato for Brunch then on to Cape Egmont for the Southern Cross start. I just tagged along as far as Hamilton with the only moment avoiding a dog feasting on road kill.
A visit to Quasi to check out his wares was followed by a quiet night in Ham's.
Tuesday was a trip thru to Aucks to catch up with a retiring work matriach, a bit of shopping at PB technologies, and a visit to AMPs before trundling thru to Busa Pete's, Wendy's & a night of chat.
Wednesday was the Anzac ride to Mangawai chasing SPB thru SH16 before meeting up with the Whangarei tribe. After a relaxing time it was follow the locals back to Whangarei & a night with Kevin (Kelt)
Thursday was head North young man (younger than today) to try & catch up with Kittie to no avail so just carried on to Kawakawa, stopping at Coopers Beach to catch up on messages & admire the view.
Off to the Kauri display & cafe for lunch before heading down to Kaitaia for a lap. I enjoyed the Kawakawa north road so decided to return that way. Called in to Kerikeri again without making contact despite visiting a few establishments both around Kerikeri & Paihia. Time was getting on so headed south visiting an old family friend south of Whangarei before heading to Penrose to find my son's flat in the dark (9pm).
Friday I headed to Coromandel, Whitianga then Whangamata catching the arriving of Beach Hop participants. Although a bed was offered I had a friend to visit in Tauranga who lost his wife last week so did the trip south.
Saturday was a visit the locals day ( the first rain all trip) & chill out with my best man & wife.
Sunday was the quiet trip home with 2400km completed in 7 days without feeling too much back discomfort from last years injury.
Thanks to all I met and the hospitality extended - I hope I can return the favour in the future.
A few photo's may follow unless bribes are offered.
