Coroner questions use of Pan European

A coroner has questioned the suitability of the Pan-European STX1300 as a police motorcycle.

Speaking at the conclusion of the inquest into the death of police motorcycle officer David Shreeve, who was thrown from his bike while on a training exercise, Dr James Adeley said that he planned to write to every chief constable in England and Wales warning them of the “catastrophic result” which can occur with the Honda motorbike.

Shreeve was crushed to death under a lorry after he fell from his bike during a training exercise. The inquest heard that Pc Shreeve lost control after the bike began to shake violently while travelling at around 110mph.

Is this a common problem with the ST1300? Mine never showed any evidence of getting "lose" at speed.

It's a common problem if your topbox is full of 1940's radio gear.

There's quite a bit of discussion on this topic here http://www.st-owners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=7242

Appologies Mr Hitcher for making any reference to this site but I guess it is a relevant topic to ST owners.

Bottom line appears to be..."Who knows..???"

I might've taken mine into these regions, I'm not sure, as it only felt like I was doing 100kph and was still pulling like I was only doing 100kph. I have never felt anything but stable on the ST, except for the odd twitch from the rear or in the odd bit of loose stuff.

    It's all abit scary though.

No need to apologise. As a former ST owner I am still interested in this bike and those who ride them. And this is is a particularly relevant topic for all ST owners (even that dour lot on the US site!).
