Would you say that alcoholism is a mental disorder.....because it is just like depression and often depression leads to over eating, drinking too much....
    It's quite simple really.

Western people have too much money and too much access to unhealthy food. Most forms of excercise have been removed and need to be replaced with regimented excercise programmes that occupy "leisure time". Everybody's goal is to be a happy rock star/actor/famous writer/genius therapist.

Food should be fuel, not an emotional crutch. Food is quite often used as a reward.

The aim in life in general has changed from doing what is right to doing what is right for me.

How's this for a definition of irony? A severe anorexic will die with their body fat percentage exceeding their bone mass.

The vast majority of chubbies (me included) just need to stop going to Burger King and KFC for lunch. It's not a disorder. We need to stop taking the easy option and telling ourselves we're big boned or deserve anoth helping of fat, salt, and sugar.

Early childhood nutrition needs to be given more emphasis than funding the health system or Police.

We need to stop telling kids they can be anything they want, and we need to stop focusing on trying to make happiness a goal. It's a state of being.

Most of all we need to stop wallowing in our own filthy excesses and we need to stop pandering to neurosis.

I'm fat because I eat crap and don't exercise.

I'm unhappy because my teachers and parents lied. I CAN'T be anything I want. I'm a drone in sector 7G and my happiness shouldn't depend on what I "do" or how skinny I am.

Fat people on planes piss me off. I don't spill into another seat. Why should I put up with having have half of their one big ab sitting in my lap?
If a man is alone in the woods and there isn't a woke Hollywood around to call him racist, is he still white?

Particularly of they are sweaters, as fatties often are. No joy in getting wet from someone else's pits.

All I would like to know is: IF I am on along haul flight (say Auckland - London) and somebody who is overweight is encroaching upon my seat space enough to make the journey uncomfortable or even untenable for me, what is my recourse? Do I have any rights to complain etc or do I have to just put up with it... stand in the aisle for a 26 hour flight?

You have no recourse. Airlines are about moving people from A to B as cheaply as possible. They don't care about your comfort.

What about if you're sitting next to Helitosis Boy and Fartman, all rolled up in the same person?!

I asked the hostie for breathmints and a cork, she looked at me funny, i can only assume she made the connection. 'No good god no, not for me...' i said, 'him...' i retorted casually pointing to HB-FM. He ignored me and continued on with his Sudoku puzzle. I'm sure I saw him smirk from the corner of me eye.

The look on hostie's (knowing) face was priceless.

Once I travelled on a chocka flight from Singapore to london and being staff I was downgraded to cattle class..! Shared a row of 3 seats between a huge fat guy on my right and a great big lanky guy on my left. About 3 hours after take-off they both went to sleep and between sharp 'knees n elbows' poking me from the left and volumes of sweaty, snoring flesh rolling in from the right, I figured I wasn't going to get much sleep during the next 10 hours.
If you love it, let it go. If it comes back to you, you've just high-sided!

They care a lot if one pays a lot. I imagine that first class is most pleasant compared with the squalor of cattle class.

You're right of course. Replace "cheaply" with "profitably".

Not if you fly Air India - Dirty seats (I had to wipe food off mine), shite food (presented to me within seconds of boarding, before I'd even stowed my bags) and literally no staff to tender to my every need for the entire flight (I had to walk back to business class to ask for a freakin coffee). Bastards. Then again it did only cost around $400 to fly from Dhaka to Delhi, so I guess they felt that was good service for the class of person they normally ferry around on that root. Thank fork I didn't fly in peasant class.

Very true - but when did 'child bearing hips' become 'school bus'.
As i think that if you are too fat for a plane, car, bike seat - you have to seriously wonder where you are going with it.
If i was that reckless with my life i would have all have lost my license about 50 times by now....atleast. Unless i was dead.
