Strange foot pegs

While eating my lunch at subway the other day there was a scooter parked outside that was advertising something (cant remember what but doesnt matter anyway). The scooter looked normal until I saw a set of pegs on the outside of the "foot well". Is this normal? Have never noticed it before, looks like a set of "highway pegs". Strange.

Strange, but it would be for when the foot space is taken up with cargo. Most scooters; including this one; have a hook to hang (shopping) bags on the inside under the handlebars.

It is, and it's a bloody good idea, you can only ride so far with your holding your legs stuck out the side with 5 bags of shopping in the step-through

You'd be quite correct if that was an Italian scooter, but seeing as it's a jappa the shopping bag thing is the reason.
