There hasn't been an Art-Rock band worthy of the title for decades. These guys are unreal.
I wish they were playing in Wellington as well as Auckalnd.

They are apparently great live, a friend (VTRthou owner) introduced me to them a couple of years back. Presumably you have Absolution, but Origin of Symmetry(sp?) is if anything better & the first album Showbiz is quite good too.
For a similar but totally different band try The Mars Volta. You wont be disappointed after a couple of listens. Like a dememnted cross between Muse, Zep & Bjork!?! :confused2

Muse are really big in Europe,better yet they`re a local group and started out playing places like Plymouth Bus Station (actually it`s a bar in the cross-country coach terminus and not the Bus station which is elsewhere but that`s England for you). Funny really that you`ve got Muse playing there as we`ve got the Finn brothers playing in Plymouth in a few weeks time.

I dont know if it`s common knowledge in N.Z. but Jaz Coleman, who`s in charge of the Auckland Philharmonicand the bloke behind "Oceania" has made a comeback album with his old punk band Killing Joke.They were among Nirvanas influences and the new one features Dave Grohl on drums. It`s about as different to Oceania as it`s possible to get and if you like your music loud and raw it`s well worth a listen..

Killing Joke's original black and white ep (pm me if you'd like a copy on CD or mp3's - I'm about the only person in the world that has it I sometimes think) was responsible for the destruction of my parents KEF Reference Series speakers - that first track (Requiem) with the nasty Prophet 5 synth going through a distortion box used to wreck the voice coils.
I used to absolutely adore Killing Joke - What's This For rates up there in my favourite albums. One of my mates (Tom Larkin) played drums for him on Pandemonium and found him a most challenging producer - even more so than when he was producing Tom's bands first couple of albums along with Malcolm Wellsford. For evidence of Jaz Coleman's strong production style (and Tom's awesome drumming) check out "Factory" off Shihad's Churn album.
I had the pleasure of seeing the Foo Fighters live in concert and as an encore they played "Requiem" - great to see that bands I really enjoy and musicians who started around the same time as me were listening to the same bands.

I'm not a fan of Jaz Coleman. I used to like Killing Joke before the two failed recording projects and the $15,000 bill for no end result. And rooting one of the best bands I've been in.
