Oil temp gauge faulty

any easy way to tell if gauge working on gsx750 oil/air cooled bike,cooler feels warm when riding so seems to work but gauge stays in cold temp zone,maybe the oil not getting hot enough as cooler working well and ambient temp is lower in autumn,will check the wiring incase wires off.did search and came up with no results for this forum.
