    1990 ZXR A - Faulty horn?

Is a 'horn' nessessary for sitting a restricted licence test? and if so how easy is it to repair, mines basically not working.

Yes it is nessecary. If it isn't working you will fail and lose your fees!

Try checking the electrical connections to see if any are loose or disconnected.

If you have done as Drum says and it is still not working try undoing the central nut in the horn and then putting it back together again. It will take you two minutes and cost you nothing.

Sometimes they get a bit rusted up and stuck, they work by vibration.

It's needed for a warrant, and the tester will check that you have a current one, but I've never heard of them checking the horn before or during the test. I wouldn't worry about it until warrant time....

Someone posted on here recently about failing for this very reason.
I had to blip my horn when I sat my test.

Like Hellnback says, you may not have to test it - but it's not worth the risk of losing your test fees.

Take this chance to install an air horn, you can get bloody loud ones from Repco(Supercheap ones arn't so good I hear).

Might save you bacon one day, you never know

Fair enough... definately not worth the risk if that's the case. Those bastards charge enough as it is without having to fork out twice!!

Well, got home and bleed the breaks so their all good now. Also had a look at the horn. I followed the wire down and found it just above the radiator. I tried the horn, and it made a soft 'thump' sound. So off with the horn, unplugged it, disassembled it as best I could. I noticed a small screw on the side of the base. Anyway got it all back together but when connected I no longer got a small sound just silence. The horn it self is a little rusted so Im thinking it could be the horn, well I'm hoping its the horn and not the wiring. What is the cheap mans\safe way of finding out there is power going through those wires as I don't have a Gauge.

Mind you an 'air horn' sounds alright, at least I can change it over to my next bike in the future.

Try a piece of wire and a bulb across the connections, should light up when you press the horn switch.

Sounds like your horn has seen better days. Try undoing it again and this time when you do it up don't over tighten it. If this fails and you have power coming into the horn but no sound then time for a new one.
