You'll be fine J just do it take the motor out take it to MCR ask them WTF??? why how where etc see if you can get the bits for it you need and hey presto go home and figure it out lol..... sounds easy eh!!! but i'm sure it is also google to see if there are any other forums out there that specialise in your bike make and model they may have manuals and give you advice if need be!!! there's a whole society in Yanksville dedicated to Magna's ....... so im sure you will find lots of info online as well
Now i will tell you what i've done for you!! 50,000 tears i've cried, screaming, decieving and bleeding for you and you still won't hear me don't want your hand this time i'll save myself maybe i'll wake up for once.........

Its done the big end bearing in the no. 3 cylinder rod meaning the piston is knocking round all over the place (from what I remember, what the bike shop guy said).

Bike shop said with the random spares I have (if they are any good) its going to cost $1500 at least to get it back on the road...

Or I could get another motor to toss back in this frame.
Current frame is great, fairings just got a small crack, but otherwise the bike is in great order....

Sooo... does anyone have a motor to fit a 1990 ZXR 250A?
Or can you think of any other solution?

    Many Thanks.
Cost wise the internet is your best option. Rebuilding you end up with a can of worms and decisions. There is a wrecker out there with a motor for your bike with almost new K's on it. The only thing that gets the rebuild nowdays is a classic. Trust me been there done that. And very much poorer for the experience.

mate I just replied to your PM. I have a motor that would be perfect for parts. I can hook you up with a service manual too. Removing the engine is veyr very easy, just undo 3 or 4 mounting bolts and the thing will just drop out...even easier if you remove the radiator first as you have more clearance to drop it out.
Once motor is out, things get a tad more complicated, however with a service manual and some know-how, so long as you are relatively mechanically minded and buy the correct tools (torque wrench is pretty important for ensuring that you dont under or over tighten bolts) you should get it done ok.

Besides as has been said...at the end of the day you are not going to depreciate the bike anymore. with a dead motor it is pretty knaffed. At worst you have increases your mechanical knowledge and have some more tools!

I would happily help you out...but being in the other island is an issue.

Mate, this sounds like the bomb project bike! New skills, more new tools and a learning experience! On ya!

And yes, I am about to embark on my own bike project ... restoring a seized RD250 to running order!

Don't worry motors are actually rather simple inside.

When I first stripped down a motor I felt really ripped off, I thought it would be filled with some kind of magic but it didn't have any, they're really easy to work on as long as you are reasonable mechanically minded.
