Yeah, I agree with that. Also if you've put a lot of effort into a post, or made some good points, someone can thank you without posting it on the thread, but without going to the effort of writing you a PM and having to express themselves.

I don't mind red rep either, if it's done appropriately. If I post up something stupid or illegal or whatever, and I get red repped for it, that's fair enough. Still don't like it, but if my post is that bad and the person red repping me has a point, then I'll put up with it. What I really hate is getting red repped by one person in particular who is just abusing me for the sheer hell of it. What's the matter pussy, can't PM me and have a good bitch? Either way I report it. You've never met me, you don't know me, yet you hurl abuse and personal attacks at me through the rep system. Grow up, get a life.

The last option on the poll is a pretty good one I think...

I think that the rep system is an interesting idea .. when used appropriately and not to intimidate or bully people the red rep makes a point. The fact that it is mis-used is an issue - there are some people who would not come back once they get bullied by some of the idiots out there. That is not good for this site.

Hate the red rep...only ever used it twice (once for MT cause he wanted it) and recieved it once (from MT for me posting a "Yay 4000 posts" thread). If I don't agree with something I'll post an argument to their point...not abuse through an impersonal mechanism like the rep system.

At the end of the day we can ignore, same as we can posts..........a certain person has sent me 2 red reps using what appears to be something abusive...last one was "litle fckn chkn" which I just ignored cause I felt sorry for him and the one before that was worse so I simply asked him to explain which he didn't which was not odd..........

You are lucky I got a MOD pm telling me off for saying "yay 3,000 threads"

    'we' aren't

but other sites, that DON'T allow peops an real easy way to slag off at each other in private at the touch of a button don't seem to be having the level of discontent we are having here ...............

so shoot me already - just thought that talking about the things that could cause upset, right here in the open like this, just might give some pointers about how things could be put right

ps don't know how to myself, but if a mod wanted to add a 'get rid of all rep' option to the poll, that may be appropriate seeing some of the comments? ............ or HOW ABOUT [*brainwave*] giving people the ability to OPT OUT of the rep system ........... or (on a roll now ....) fixing the system so that, when you put someone on 'ignore' that prevents them from repping you too?

I presume MS, the "other" sites you are referring to also have 7000+ members?...

If used properly, the red rep system would be a fantastic way to say "oi, pull your head in". Unfortunately, some of KB's more cowardly members aren't using it properly, so it provides little value.

In my opinion, KB has two options:
    - Leave the rep system as is, but severely punish anyone who misuses it. Eventually any miscreants should use it correctly or stop bullying people because they're sick of being reprimanded.
    - Remove the rep system completely (and therefore, punish the people who use it correctly).

    some have more
and i freely agree with your implication that this isn't an apples and apples comparison and that there may be many other factors involved in their apparant lack of aggro ................

however - it wasn't actually intended as a 'look - they are doing things better than us ..........."

it was intended as a "let's look and see what others are doing DIFFERENT to us that might be helpful to KB"

on that basis, i think mentioning other sites is valid?

The easy answer is get rid of the rep system entirely, but I dislike the 'easy' options in life. I do agree that unfortunately it has become a tool used by some to bully others on the forum. In these instances you should bring the issue up with a senior mod, we can look into it and take the appropriate action, which may include taking the ability to rep away from that person. If you're upset because an individual gave you red because they don't agree with what you said, suck it up. Your rep points are not worth anything, you can't cash them in or use them to buy a sandwich maker, no really cares how much you've got (ever seen anyway say 'your opinion doesn't count as you don't have sufficient rep'?), and it's only you that can see it.

If however, it becomes abusive then as I said bring it up with a mod.

Unfortunately you have to allow for the lowest common denominator, and sometimes thats fairly low on this site.
