it's not so simple....... it isn't ABOUT you, or anyone else that doesn't care about rep themselves .......

........... it's about trying to think of ways to deal with some of the severe bullying that red rep seems to be being used for on here ......... bullying that would prolly upset any fair person if they saw it happening in open forum

bullying that now never comes to light unless the victim reports it because the rep system is quick and private

if you've got any ideas on how bullies like that can be stopped, then THAT would be useful?

As I see it the aims are twofold:
    1) Enable people to express their disagreement and have it reflected in the rep system (otherwise it simply reduces the reputation system to an indicator of tenure... doesn't it?)
    2) Avoid abuse, harrassment and bullying as much as the red rep system allows.

Removing it from the hands of those that demostrate their inability to use it wisely seems a sensible answer. Senior Mods would be the ones to make that call ... and the rest takes care of itself.

    No?

I think the existing system works personally (doesn't it). Misbehave (enough) and you get infracted the hell offline. If someone chooses to escalate it to the real world it becomes a civil or criminal matter and the Police step in.

Yes it is and fair enough...

However what concerns me on KB, is all the complaining and "should we do this" and "why are we doing that" threads... at the end of the day the decisions wont be made by the users of KB...

Yes the Senior Mods will take what people think into consideration, but we will decide what we think is best for the site at the end of the day.

These threads become a big bitch session, and scratches at issues where maybe scratching is not needed at that exact moment.

However, it takes all types, some people want to debate and make their point very loudly known... Fair enough... go for it, however a quiet suggestion via pm might be just as effective and not as disruptive.

At the end of the day, stomp your foot, do your dance... the decisions will still be made with the majority in mind, not the loud minority.

And this kind of sense is why we should let MOD's decide....

I agree mate - it is better to discuss things - that is what forums are for. I think the red rep system has its place when used properly.

    post in incorrect forums

make an arse of you self

    post utter crap !

my latest plan is to do random posts by . like a drive by ... but containing no thought whatsoever !!

can the whole system and if you agree or disagree with the posts . say so !!!

Grunters may find this difficult , but there is help available .

BUT - would it be a good idea to get rid of RED rep?
if so, entirely? or mebbe limit the amount? or just abolish people's ability to make inflamitory/threatening comments with it?

C'mon people ----- let's have some of your thoughts on the subject? Fixing the red rep thingy may go a long way towards fixing some of the bickering going on around here [not saying the mods will take any notice of this - but at least we can throw 'em some ideas ........... if we have any ...]

ps - if you don't wanna talk about it here, that's fine - but if you afterwards start bitching about rep i shall have to kill you ....................
