    Speed blitz theory

Right so the cops over the last few years have become mega pedantic in giving out tickets for the smallest overstep of the speed limit.

Now seemingly unrelated to this, we are seeing record fuel prices.

Back during the fuel crisis the govt did 2 things to save fuel usage overall
    1) They tried to restrict car usage by introducing carless days
    2) they lowered the speed limit. (as on average a car uses 30% less fuel at 80kmph than at 110 kmph.)

So could the attempt to keep our speed down have anything to do with getting us to conserve fuel?

Probably not but insomnia makes you think about some fucked up stuff

Yep, that is pretty fucked up. If reducing fuel consumption was the object then it would be far more effective to reduce the maximum speed of the vehicle fleet over all, than to ping the few drivers that exceed the current limit.

Oh dear, you do have bad insomnia. Or paranoia.
Consider the taxes levied on fuel, then tell us why the gummint would want us to conserve the stuff.
And the speed limit was only lowered on motorways (of which there was 5/8 of fuck-all compared to now) - the rest of the highways were always 80K.
And the fuel usage comparison may have been valid back then, but these days such figures would be bollocks - in fact, some vehicles are more fuel-efficient at 110K than at 100 (this will start some arguments...)

You need alcohol. Best go for home brewed, so you don't have to pay tax on it.

It's nothing to do with fuel saving, it's just another part of the gummints socialist mind-control program.

Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?

Well, I know ride about 20km/h slower than I used to.... so it saves fuel and saves me money. I am personally glad we have less than half the road toll we had back in the bad old days and good enforcement - it means our chances of going riding without getting wiped out by some speeding dickhead are much improved. HOWEVER...........

    Bloody Govt fuel levys:
I am sick of being fucked up the arse by a tax greedy govt that screws us for so much and spends all it's time on social engineering rather than helping the economy do better and help us be more competitive. Give me my hard earned taxes back so I can put it into debt retirement you wankers.

... filled up my two cars (3.8L & 1.8L on 91) and bike (1.8L on 98/95) .... almost needed CPR to recover from the bill at $160.

Once this Auckland fuel tax comes in - I'll be really in the poo. Funding the South and Central Auckland rail system should not be funded by North Auckland drivers/riders when we have no access to the public rail system.

No, it is merely a ploy to increase radar/laser detector/jammer sales.
