Well, you buggers scooped me (a local) on this one! Just opened up my computer (Friday morning) to Superbikeplanet, to find:

News emanating from the Sears Point/Infineon paddock this afternoon is that Kurtis Roberts will not be racing for the team any longer this season.

Team sources say that New Zealand rider Dominick Jones is now a Team NFS rider.

Also, Jett Chandler, son of three-time US Superbike champion and Grand Slam Club member Doug Chandler is lapping in practice today.

All I can say is BRILLIANT! Hard work pays off. I guess the team isn't called 'NFS' for nothing though, so it's not as if he'll be on a salary, probably, but should take a bit of stress off, having technical help and being associated with Doug Chandler, who is a genuine good bloke, I think.

    Cheers
    Barry

Good stuff Dom...sounds like a dream slowly coming true, after a whole lot of hard work. Even though I have never met the man, it makes me proud for some reason.

For anyone that doesn't know the history (because I didn't), here are some other posts about what Dom Jones has been up to.

Basically he has been driving all over the US with Van, Bike, and keeping his head about water where ever he can! ...oh and doing well....

Yep so dom replaced a motogp rider aye? Hehe.

I see that in the results he got 21st in the first race and 16th in the second. Quite a big improvement between races, lets hope he can break into the top 15 or even top 10 next meeting. All eyes are watching.

Dom rang bout 2 weeks ago, tired but pretty excited. He's just got back to base in San Diego after riding 7 out of the last 9 days. It seemed after rnd 3 AMA at California peedway he was approached by NFS Racing, a privately funded (non factory) team. He spent a couple of days testing at Button Willow. All good and Doug Chandler really helpful, in fact the whole team really great. Then as he packed up "how bout a few more days, at Infineon, where we'll be for AMA Rnd 4 in a few weeks?" So off he goes up north of San Francisco. More good testing. All new stuff. Full Superbike spec, own mechanic, data logger and traction control etc. All the new goodies to learn about! Pit girls might be next. Again, Doug the leader, Dom going well not too far behind. Cos Curtis Roberts was on the way out, all was kept quiet till after Infineon. A good idea to concentrate on the doin, not the talkin!
Infineon went well for his debut, good solid result with a good step up on Sunday to 16th. The important thing he is 16th, and the group ahead of him right up till 12th are beatable, only 6 points total gap. Beyond that, well, if he get on the back of this group he's really smokin. In order, Mladin, Spies, Duhamel, Zemke,Hayden, Disalvo, Bostrom, Yates, Hacking, Ellison, Haydon.
Yep, he's knockin on the door....

Thanks for the update pete, such awesome news. Is he still going to continue to race his gixxer at other club meetings or only racing the cbr for the NFS team at AMA rounds?

Pretty sure he'll back out of his regional racing stuff. Best to concentrate on his new team effort. The original scheme to travel all over and ride for money is flawed in that it gives no opportunity for developing the correct type of fitness. In the 5 weeks I was with him last year it was non stop,
and after he did a 30 hr straight drive to Mid Ohio later in the year, he knew it was just killing his ability to perform. He's based on a ranch in San Diego
now, and talking of getting a mountain bike, getting into regular training with swimming too. Hanging onto a 200hp Superbike for 40 mins at 35 deg and high humidity takes some special fitness.

If anyone wants his Suzuki, just ask him! Here is an opportunity for a NZ'r to go over and get moving. All the planning is done! He might even chuck in the "highly experienced" Chev Astro.

What an inspirational story Pete, thanks for that...
And what a great offer for someone who wants to ride over there, good on you guys!

I presume I will see you tomorrow, look forward to catching up.

I was chatting to Dom earlier to day via MSN, he said in the first race he got massive arm pump, and in typical Dom style he said in the second race he hardened up and rode anyway!!
