Yeehaa, BlueAnt Interphone, it arrived at last, so here is a prelim report,
A very simple mounting system and quick to fit to the helmets.
Positioning of the speaker in the helmet is cruicial, but it does have two modes LOW and HIGH sound as well, on top of normal volume control, I aint tried the HIGH mode yet...
Pairing, (to phone and helmets) is a like all other bluetooth devices and needs to be followed step by step to complete it properly, but dont be surprised if you have to try it a couple of times first time :-) but once paired to phone or other helmets its sweet. It is capable of holding 5 different devices (phones) in memory..
I have only tested the phone whilst running around town and it seems to perform well with my Treo 650, the person I called said its just like a landline.. my end sounded ok to me, but I need to play with volume and position of speaker a bit more I think.. Im a fussy beggar....
Once Ive tested it on the open road and with my other pillion/helmet Ill report further.
i got bluetooth helmets coming in (for resale)with the gear allready installed, awesome looking helmets and nz approved, they should be here in a few weeks
now heres the good part, they are probably only gonna retail for about $299-$350
Yeah the Blueant Intercom bike to bike thingys are
available from Cycletreads, barrys point road takapuna.
Neat device clip on to your helmet $300.00
Blue Ant headsets.
The guys at Cycletreads in Takapuna have them now.
They also have a couple of helmets set up so that you can try them.
I tried one and they seem easy to fit and work well.
I will buy a pair this week.
An update on the Blue Ant Interphone, We have had plenty of mid range rides and they performed well, Its taken a while, but Ive finally found the limit of these units, Ive been on one 7 hour ride where we left the units in interphone/chat mode continuously and one of the units ran out of battery at the 7:1/4 hour mark..
When I got back we ran em both flat and then recharged both, put them back in interphone/chat mode, stuck em infront of the radio and let em go, again at the 7 hour mark one ran into low battery mode.. the other still had some left and it ran in standby (no transmitting mode) for another 20 hours..
Now, in our normal riding mode we dont have em in transmit mode all the time, because we are rider/pillion and I just put mine in standby which forces pillion into standby also, and when we want to chat I just hit my button and its online again, or the MRs taps my shoulder for me to put it back on, ( or she puts it on by hitting the button) so we can ride a full day easily that way, BUT if u intend to run bike to bike, you may want to leave it on all the time, so be aware of the battery life, the Factory says UP TO 10 HOURS, note the UP to ....;-)
If you ewere using it in phone mode only I suspect it wouldnt be such a problem, I have not tried yakking on phone for hours at a time...
So I do have one query regarding these, how good are the speakers if I was to use them with some custom made ear plugs?
Have 2 coming from the usa and cost $254.81 USD shipped aprox $338.00NZD.
