    Garagists in here?

    Hey!

My flatmate is really cool with me, helping me all the time, can take his car etc..BUT now, he needs to pay for the WOF because of rust on his car:
so first question: how much it is if you are catch without having WOF?
and second: is anybody here garagist, but not too expensive?

    Cheers!

Sounds like you need a panelbeater who does rust repairs. The extent of the rust will determine cost. Are you still in Western Springs? There should be a panelbeater fairly close to you that you can take the car to for a quote. It pays to check around and don't commit to anything until you are certain you want the work done. Check the yellow pages for a local panelbeater unless someone on here can recommend someone. I don't know anyone cheap!

Sorry, don't know how much it is if you are caught without a WOF.

I would first like to ask where you took the WOF. My ex gf took in her car to a place other then AA or VTNZ and they said she needed this and this and this done and that they can do it for $2000. I said to her they can get fucked and got her to take it to my mechanic who said he can do those repairs for $200 (and in the end it cost $180). He did the repairs and we took it back to this repair shop that did the WOF and they gave us all sorts of stories as to why they couldn't pass those repairs, however we got the guy who did the repairs to get in touch with them (as he is AA registered) and they got a boot up their ass.

Also, how much rust is there? My car has rust but it's passed all its WOF. To prevent more rust I've sprayed liquid varnish I got from bunnings over the rust every now and then. Works great.

    Hi C,

Other thing to consider is that insurance companies can decline claims after an accident if the car doesn't have a WOF. That would be assuming its A) insured and B) your fault.

    Good luck!

just a hint... the WOF inspector is not allowed to prod areas of your car to check for rust... if he cant see it then it must be ok....

Assuming it is not in a structural area, then a bit of body filler and a quick sand and paint will do the trick...

If it is structural, then for safety reasons you need to get a metal plate welded in.

Yep, fine for no warrant = $200.

And c. The reason why the vehicle failed the WOF contributed to the accident.

I think that only works if it's all done prior to the first inspection, now every inspection is logged against the WOF history so if it's already been discovered in a wof test then you have to get it repaired to the standards they require.
