Evanescence- finally a fresh rock band, goth or not

Music is a personal taste thing so if you don't agree.. I don't give a shit.
Ok, firstly I was raised on Pink this, Purple that, Led that, something Tull this, Alice Cooper that..
But for me the past decade OR TWO have left me wondering if another good sound would ever come along. And don't give me that Oasis crap or Britney bitch ..or.. the list goes on. If you want to increase teen suicide then force feed them rap or some pretty face boy band doing 70's covers. Has me reaching for a blade or rope but I can't get past the puking.
Anyway, where was I. Oh yeah, I always enjoyed my Daughters Evanescense songs waffling through the house. So I watched the Evanescense DVD she had. Live Paris concert and hit videos. Bugger me this group has a truly original sound and the lead singer chick is a hottie.
I don't even know if they are goth or not. All I know is the sound rocks. They can go from full on head banging powerful hard rock anthems at times to mesmerising slow ballads. And to top it off they included some motorbike wheelies and burnouts in one of the vids- that was the clincher, I was hooked. A bit like The Cranberries I guess you could argue with a dose of heavy metal.
Who cares I think they rock.

They started out good but IMHO they went the pop route making songs with simple lyrics for the ADD mainstream audience.

as for original sound, ever heard of Lacuna Coil? Seem pretty similer to me.

umm.. evanescence... the old bands shit on them.. i hate everything pretty much thats past the 90's ... cept some of the more melancholy indie music that there is... albeits not mainstream.. because mainstream sucks arse...

sorry just had to say that... though amy has a good voice and all.. the band is crap... cept for maybe one of their softer songs ... i cant remember what its called....

I too was introduced to Evanesence by my daughter a couple of yrs ago, bought her the Open Door CD recently(after ripping a copy) and, depite the pitch for the masses, still find little else of interest in todays sanitised offerings. You have to admit Amy Lee has a voice!

they were never a christian band according to Amy on an interview I saw.....and they're not goth either despite the looks. She usually goes around looking pretty normal.
Not bad I spose, but there style is still a bit too manufactured for my tastes.....prefer real bands......stereophonics etc with no gay ass EMO type hairdo's and eye makeup. Fuckin hate 12 year old sounding lead singers.
    More chick bands I reckon!

MD, get hold of a copy of the song that Amy Lee does with Korn (Freak on a Leash). It's very good.
Personally, I'm not so keen on Evanesence. A couple of ok songs but that's it for me. For me, the stuff Amy Lee has done with others (Seether & Korn) is better than Evanesence.

Lucuna Coil aren't too bad either.

Fresh? Old hat and hackneyed as Plus Fours. It's rumoured that Simon Cowell created, err, discovered them. That's a lie, but they seem pretty formulaic to me.

    Evanesance is ALL marketing.

As Waylander has already mention Lacuna Coil is a proper band. Drain STH (though they are no more *sob*) is a better metal band and it's an all girl one. Hot girls. Like the Tui advert.

I like Hellbillies. I've been listening to HellYeah all week. Welcome back Vinnie Paul.

It's only when you take the piss out of a partially shaved wookie with an overactive 'me' gene and stapled on piss flaps that it becomes a problem.

    Radiohead are better than Suede.
