    Problem with lights

ok I've noticed before on the bike when i start it the lights don't come on straight away took a few seconds. Today i changed the spark plugs to 8s as the 9s wernt working properly. went for a nice ride but tonight when i went to go out they didn't work at all. theres a little light above the headlights & that works. the tail light comes on when I turn the lights on & when I pull the pass button in the lights work on that hig beam. Could it be the battery doesn't have enogh power for the lights? I know the battery needs replacing

I've had a quick look at the wiring where I had the tank off from changing the sarks but couldn't find anything wrong

    Any ideas?

Not sure if your problem is before starting engine or after its running, but it will be 1 of 3 things I suspect, 1. Short in light circuits, 2. Stuffed battery that aint holding charge enough to feed current draw of lights. or lastly 3. Faulty charging. U havent said wether electric starting is ok, but assuming it starts well and strongly then maybe battery is reasonable..
2 and 3 would be simplest to check first, with a meter, ( a cheap AC/DC meter from Dick Smith $25 very usefull) a good battery should be sitting at least over 12.5v dc. then turn on lights and it shouldnt drop under 12 in for some time.
Then with engine running at a few revs meter reading should be up around 14.8volts dc.
    good luck...

Since the bulb goes, but only one switch out of two can turn it on.

    Broken Wire somewhere.

I'd check wiring to the headlight switch.

First place I'd look is at the headlight switch itself.
If it wasn't for a concise set of rules, we might have to resort to common sense!

today I checked the fuses & bulbs all ok. next step is checking the wiring but don't have a mutimeter. Mates coming over on tuesday to check it out for me. anyone know if the lights can be hardwired to stay on? I've heard the switch block thingys are expensive like around $300 so thought maybe I just get the lights hard wired so when turn the key the lights come on aswell. that way I won't have to spend $300 on a swtich block thingy. My mate will know how to do it if it can be done but he won't be back in wellington till Tuesday
