    Smile Australia MotoGP 125 riders

Hi guys. Many of you 125 riders will be aware that the MotoGP meeting in Aust caters for the Australia 125 class as a support class. This class gets to race on Saturday and on Sunday morning in front of all the crowd. It is an awesome opportunity. There are a few riders who are keen to go. If we can all get onto the same page and organise ourselves at the same time then it will make it all alot easier and cheaper.

Can those riders and teams who are planning to go let me know and maybe we can liase and get organised together.

At this stage we have Kirk Pritchard (K14) and Sam Flynn (RG100) with me Steve Bagshaw (Steveyb) and possibly Mel Jackson as support. Is Maarty vB going?

I have been in touch with Mandy and Paul Cookinello and have gotten some good info already and Kirk is already well into organising himself.

Anyway, if you can let me know that will be cool and I will get in touch. If there are riders who have good 125's who are not going and would be interested in loaning their bikes either as backups or for other riders that would also be great.

    Cheers

Just remember its not quite that easy. You'll need to budget for between 5 and 7 grand for the weekend. If you are serious you need to get onto accommodation asap as its already pretty much sold out.

Accomodation in melbourne is useless considering teh track is an hour and a half away on light traffic. Who knows how long it takes on gp weekend.

Yeah can see the hard decision, go to auzzie, race on the best track in the world on the same day as the best riders in the world or go to manfeild and putt around with the street stock guys. Tough call.....

Cheers Glenn. Maybe that was a freudian slip to scare you into it??? Hahaha
Seriously, let me know what assistance you would need. Maybe we can find a way. PM me or email me at the hotmail given earlier.

    Cheers

    Not many replies.
Does that mean no one else is keen, or everyone is going to do it on their own?
If the former, OK that's cool.
If the latter, come on, get real!!! We need to work together to make it work for everyone.
    Do get in touch.
One opinion from a rider who did it a couple of years ago was a budget of about $2-3K if use seafreight. Takes longer.
A bit more if use airfreight, but with the right contacts we might mitigate this.
Entry to race will be around AUD500
    Flights there about the same.
Camper rental not all that much.

If you want to go, we need to move soon to organise stuff.

    Cheers

From what I've been told regarding seafreight it takes about 7-10 days plus maybe 2 or 3 extra for clearances. I don't really see that as prohibitive, seems ok to me. I'd be willing to go that way. Just a matter of getting all bikes to the same location and packing them up in an efficient way. I'm pretty sure that the cost only would increase slightly from 1 to 2 bikes so it would definately make sense for Sam and I to send our bikes over together. The more the merrier I say.

    Hi guys.
My info suggests seafreight could take as long as 4 weeks, but I think Kirk might be right, maybe closer to 14 days. Crating bikes and gear together is certainly the best idea. Kirk, you will have received the carnet list.
A list of this type must accompany each shipment and must match what goes into the crate at both ends, EXACTLY. That means, no extra tyres to come back etc etc and broken stuff must also come back.
MAF clearance at the other end can be a major stumbling block, so having an agent that will collect the shipment and take it for MAF clearance before we get there would be advantageous.

Mel and some guys rented a camper and stayed in the camping ground at the circuit. That seemed to work very well. Provides a means of transport at the same time, but elsewhere is good if the whole team can stay there and just rent a car instead.

I suggested a budget of maybe $2-3K, please revise that to $5-7K plus the costs of tooling up with spares etc.

Also, qualifying. Remember that there will be a strict qualifying standard that will be adhered to. So you might go through all this effort and get only two 10 minute practice sessions! Recall that at least two of the top Aus 125 bikes are worth inexcess of $100k!!! The standard is still pretty high.

The bikes must be totally fresh, must be set up with correct gearing (which we can find out) and must have multiple spares (cranks, pistons, clutches, pegs, bars, fairings) accompanying each bike.

Another option for a younger rider maybe is to accompany one or two riders as a team member and help with bike setup and the like and get a feeling for the place that way first and perhaps save the money for a fully funded serious 2008 NZ national series.

    OK, cool. We will proceed.

    Cheers
