    Footpeg issues

    Hello,

I just broke off my left side foot peg on my RG150

Any ideas how to re-attach? I've really gone and fucked it. It appears to have been welded on

The bolt's sheared. You'll have to drill and tap the remains of the bolt in the mount to get it out, and buy a new footpeg by the looks of that.

    Check some bike wreckers out.

Alright guys, thanks for the replies. I'm trying to take the whole footpeg assembly off for closer inspection, but the allen screws won't budge. Any way to loosen them up so I can get it out easier?

Soak them in WD40 or CRC and use an impact driver to get them started.

Yep, I'd try some vicegrips (or meaty pliers) on that before drilling and tapping stuff. I had one or two problems like that when rebuilding my engine, usually because the load is off the remainder of the bolt (no head) you can usually just twist it out easily enough.

However that bolt would be a good candidate for being rusted and corroded in, where it is.

If I've got the set-up right (i.e., bolt goes through the footpeg, screwing into the frame, not v.v.) then you just need a new bolt. I think.

I see what you mean, but I had a look at the other foot peg, and it appears to be welded on. I get a feeling this is going to be expensive

Well until the next time... looks like it's not supposed to be welded either...

If it was me, I'd go over the bike with a fine tooth comb to see what else may have been welded that shouldn't have been... if someone is willing to just patch job one part, they may have done the same to other (more important) areas.

Yeah, even good welders can do a brittle weld if the metal is different to what they thought etc.

Use Blu-Tack, it stays supple for years.
