Just read through the whole thread.

THANK THE LORD ALMIGHTY!!! You came to your senses (did I say that out aloud?? )

But seriously though, good move Gizzit

In the long run you will be better off on a bigger 2nd hand bike, than a brand new ginny or Scorpio.

ps: The Scorpio was the better choice btw
To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics and to endure the betrayal of false friends. To appreciate beauty; to find the best in others; to leave the world a bit better whether by a healthy child, a garden patch, or a redeemed social condition; to know that even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded

Yes ... I won't be looking at a new Scorpio or GN !! I'm happy checking out my options, and are quite open to looking at a variety of bikes, or even a scooter if I figure most of my riding will be commuting. If a bike, it will be above 400cc for sure.

    Welcome to KB, Gizzit!
As others have said, having the full for many years will allow you to get more bike for your $$'s.

Good to see others getting back on two wheels after a lay-off!

(p.s. use the "disgustingly high price of petrol" excuse!!!)

Thanks Yes I took a couple of bikes for a ride after work last night. Didn't go far, but it felt bloody good to be back on two wheels again. The fun factor hasn't gone !!
Thankfully,my lovely and understanding wife is in full support of me getting a bike to enjoy. We are both in stressful careers, so she understands the need to have an outlet and to have fun! Guess I'm a lucky guy ! ... just need to choose the right bike now ....

It sounds like you are another happy FXR150 rider.
Since posting this thread, I have worked through a lot of pro's and cons regarding different bikes and in the end bought a Suzuki GSX750F with low K's. It won't give me great economy ...... but the grin factor is worth it !!
    Cheers,
    Grant.

Hi KB's, I'm in a somewhat similar position to yourself Gizzit. My Scooter (GAS Econo-mee, dont get me started!!) needs to be replaced and although I've not got my learners yet it has'nt stopped me from looking for a bike to commute the 32kms / day.

I've looked at the Yamaha SX Scorpio and it does feel like a nice bike although it was'nt running the 'feel' of the bike was good.

I remember doing my Basic Handling on a GN125 which was good but did'nt have the Bike feel. I like to look of the Hondas and think the Scorpio has the same look about it but I guess I'll only know more when I ride different bikes more.

Having not ridden a cruiser I guess its going to be a long period of testing....hehe looking forward to it am I!

Scorpio or an older GN. Not a newish GN.
There do seem to be quite a few 400s around now so certainly have a look at them.
Welcome to another middle aged returning biker. I reckon we outnumber any other demographic on KB.

Since this discussion has widened a little from your original intent, the Bandit 600s are a nice bike, comfortable for longer distances.
My lady had one and found it a lot better for comfort than the ZXR400 she had previuosly, the only she missed was the get up and go of the zxr

Seriously work out what you want from your bike, if it is purely for comutting you could get another scooter.

If you want more from a bike, start by getting your learners, work out your budget then have a look at what fits your price range. then decide what you like the best and investigate the options further

Good luck with your testing. Take your time, and keep an open mind. I started out looking at a scooter to commute on, then having tried a few 250cc bikes, was almost going to decide on either a Kawasaki GPX250, or a Hyosung GT250R. Both really good bikes in my opinion, having ridden the Honda CB250 and the Scorpion, And GN250.
But .... working through my options, I ended up buying a Suzuki GSXF750 !! Having had a full licence for years, I chose to get something bigger so my wife could come along on some rides (which she did today, after buying some awesome hear for her from Cycletreads in Barry's Point Rd, Takapuna). She loved it, so Im pleased!
    Have fun Alijax !!

Welcome to KB, as you can see a great bunch of people always ready to help out with advice etc. I am waiting for my CB750F to arrive from the UK and havent been on a bike in 15 years so that will be a learning curve. I would go for something with a bit of power so you can get out and enjoy some of the beautiful roads you have here and maybe bring the missus too once you are back in the swing of it.
