    Old bikes, young riders

The Classic Action Motorcycle Sport (CAMS) meeting was held on Sat at Ruapuna. A great day with a full range of riders, about 90 all up. Starting of with a few sessions of track time and training, all welcome but focusing on the junior riders. The Young Junior Road Race class is really going well, great to see those little 11 and 12 year olds out there on their 50's. Then the full race meeting,Classics, Posties, Streetstock and Min Road Race combined.

Then something new. How about we "break the mould" that only old people ride ride old bikes. So a special race was run just for teenagers on Classic class bikes. With over 18 on the grid, it was a big success and ALL of these youngsters said they loved it, and a keen to continue in the classic scene, alongside their modern Road Race development. Bike ranged from 1929 to 1981. 50cc to 750cc. How was the winner decided? .... by popular vote of the riders and their crews. All about enthusiasm and a fine job of the riding, how classic should be judged, always.
Congratulations to 14 year old Eric Oliver-Maxwell, riding a 250 Ducati. His prize is free entry and supported costs to the 2008 Classic Festival in Pukekohe.
Top stuff and a big thanks to CAMS and NZCMRR for their support.
A new era might be starting....

Yeah it was interesting seeing some of those young guys on bikes that would have been around when their grandparents were still at school

Sam Smith seemed to do alright on the Norton Inter in the Transtasman series.......
