Long trips on the motorway with GN250

Does anyone do long rides with there GN250 and if so does it cope ok???? People have said they are not too good on long trips is this true???? Also is there anything special I should be checking on the GN before a long ride apart from the usual oil and things??

It's not as stupid as touring on a scooter, but it's not ideal.
On my GN250 I did Auckland - Wellington with a night in a tent in Taupo, it was fun but I was pretty tired at the end.

Nah mate, she'll be right. It'll be slow but sure, like the turtle. You'll get tired from the wind in the upright seating position, and your bum will go numb.
People will try to pass you a lot. Let them.
    Just do it.

To quote Lee Rusty, "There isn't a bike built today that isn't capable of doing the 1000 miler!"

It's just harder and slower on a GN than an ST.

    Along similar lines:

Also, on longer trips, move yourself around every 10 minutes or so, change your hand position a bit, hop your rear up an down on the seat a couple of times etc. If you start doing this right from the start of your ride it will help keep soreness at bay.

She'll be fine, I rode my KLX250 from paeroa to west Auckland with just one stop at Ngatea for gas on the way home, I've also ridden from Mangawai to west auckland non-stop,100km @ 7rpm , easing back to 80 occasionally just to let her catch her breath. I don't think it's good for them reving that hard for hours on end but I doubt it'll kill 'em.
Word of advice, something that I felt helped me was when on the motorway and feeling a little sore from the upright riding position tuck in behind a coachliner bus for a little bit and get in their 'draft'. Obviously don't ride too close but just close enough that you feel the wind ease off you. Is a bit smelly with the diesel fumes so only do it for a couple of minutes at the most. Will just give you a chance to catch your breath without stopping then push on after that
Been, seen and going next year.

Don't worry, you GN250 is fine for touring. Just travel at a speed the bike is comfy at. Have a look at http://wmuma.com/moped78/ for some inspiration.

Hell, in years gone by Ive ridden from AKL to Hawkesbay and back on a GN250, Yes sure they are not as comfortable as a big touring/cruising bike but who cares, by the time you take regular fuel & food stops, its great fun. (two up is a little more demanding but one up sweet), just do you normal services when they are due and as with any long trip ensure u do saftey checks and have puncture repair kit etc...

its all good to ride the GN on long trips. the bonus is it helps with learning about it. ive done it quite a few times now.
if you have some leathers id recommened wearing them for the start of the trip to give yourself extra padding so your not too sore at the end of the ride!

With my little''GINA'' and hubby on ''EEYORE'' we left the manawatu, went to Taranaki where we spent the night.Early next morning we headed out and made our way to Rotorua via Mt messenger-Mokau-TeKuiti-Kihikihi-Putaruru-through the beautiful Fitzgerald glade to a lovely hot pool waiting in Rotorua for that evening.Next day we were off again this time through to Tauranga and all the way up the coast to Thames via Waihi and Whangamata. What a ride.Spent the night there and up bright and early to go and enjoy the ride and scenery of the coromandel Peninsula.Breath taking i tell you.Went around there and headed to Matamata for the night.Next day we just rode around the waikato and headed back to Rotorua again where we just relaxed yet again. After a day off riding we headed to Taupo and as the weather was turning sour we headed to Marton to our other place. We were going to go to Napier .But my Trusty little GN did not miss a beat.We did a lot of long and highway riding. We went the same places as the bigger bikes .You get out there and enjoy your bike just like i did.

No problem taking a GN250 for a long road trip - the hardest thing will be choosing a bike trailer to put it on!
