    Carb questions

Has anyone replaced the cable choke mechanism on the CV carb with the manual alternative available from Jesse Kientz? http://www.kientech.com/DR650HandChokeConv.htm

Anyone purchased and installed a pumper carb like these on offer from Jesse http://www.kientech.com/TM-40Pumper.html

Keen to know of others experiences before splashing out on a pumper carb

thanks in advance - Cheers Aslan

    Hi Stephen

I have a FCR carb sitting at Nordie's, I forgot to repack it when I left, if I get it on the bike before you do something you will be welcome to ride it. I rode Nordie's FCR equipped bike back to back with mine over the weekend and it seemed quite a bit stronger, no hesitation at all off idle, straight into the power. He was running quite a bit lower gearing so I don't know how much effect that would have had but it felt very keen to go.

Procycle also do a TM-40 plug and play kit, and MX-Rob off ADVrider does a fcr plug and play kit. Rob's kit is pretty sorted.

I ran the choke conversion. Went well.

The TM40 is a better buy from Procycle as you get the machined adapters.

Once you've ridden a pumper equipped DR then even a dyno jetted one feels a bit limp down low.

I have ridden two bikes before and after now. Pumpers work well. Worth doing if you can in any case seems to be the story. Cheap ones do come up if you wait......

    thanks Eddie, NordieBoy and Roger

Appreciate your feedback guys - very helpful.

I think in the short term I'll just get the hand operated choke conversation and watch out for a 'pumper' carb

Water can get down the cable one.
Mine got rusty crap down into the plunger and bound it up.
    Couldn't turn it completely off.

Just put one on my son's DR650. Very simple and necessary in his case as the old cable had broken due to rust. Seemed a cheaper option.

    Cheers

    hand operated choke

as others have said cable on handlebar operated one can seize - mine was staying open before the DB - lubed it and after the DB has seized so the conversion seems like a sensible thing to do - cheers all

I had to change mine because the the curved metal tube part by the handle bar hit my big tank. I had an old Mikuni carb lying around which had the carb mounted choke knob so I fitted that, but will get a remote one for my FCR when I fit that

Anyone thinking of making an order with Procycle soon? I'm only after a couple of wee items (Cush drive rubbers, spark plugs) and wanting to cut down the shipping cost a bit!
