Unhappy 1990 CBR400rr Cry for help.

My race mule is refusing to play nice and I am in desperate need of the borrow of a CDI for the above, for a couple of hours. This will enable me to tell if my CDI is pakuru and get onto purchasing a replacement. This is getting urgent as I want to be able to race in round 2 of the winter series on the 16th.

The trouble with this theory is that if you plug in someone's good CDI then it might fry it. Have you played with the multimeter yet? I'll have a rummage in the spares and see what I have.

Is Pakuru Peekachoo's wee brother BTW?

Good call scracha. I will take full responsibility in that worse case scenario and replace the unit. I'm about to strip the wiring loom to check for shorts etc. Hopefully this reduces the risk of a fry-up. Roadracingoldfart gave it a thorough metering last night (Cheers mate) and after checking everything we could we are left with suspicions about the CDI.
My bike is an L model. The CDI unit has MV4 stamped on it.
Haha. Pakuru doesn't like being called wee.

First check the resistance of the HT leads spark plug caps... I've had 2 CBR400's where they failed and made it run like crap.... They should measure 5kohm... then work back from there...

Cheers Ben444. I swapped coils leads and caps over for some fully functional ones and it still ran like a hamstrung hyena. Copb8 has offered me a loan of his CDI to see if that makes a difference so fingers crossed. The timing of all this palarver couldn't be worse.

I considered swapping over to clubmans on the Tuono but it would need $800-$1000 spent on it first and I seem to have misplaced my wife's credit card. Besides, a mate suggested I consider what it would be like if I managed to bin it. I'm a pretty visual guy and the visuals weren't pretty. I'll be cutting it fine but hopefully the CBR will be going.

Just to recap for anyone able to see whats wrong that i may have missed .
It wont accept full or even half throttle at all without overfueling and trying to die. I cant get the 5 OHMS reading out of the throttle poss sensor it says i should get but i am getting the correct voltage DC at the CDI .
The wiring has a few (shall we say ) dodgy bits with a good amount of house wiring connectors involved , .
I told Clive to check the loom for obvious worries and thats where i have left it.
The only other thing i found was the plugs have a fairly weak spark but it idles and starts great (once i remembered to reconnect the friggen choke cable , it was late and Jim Beam was helping me that night. ) so i have discounted a fueling gremlin.
I pulled the carbs out and cleaned and measured floats etc so alls well there.
ITS JUST BEING A FUCKIN HONDA.
Clives bike is an NC29 people so please help him out if you can , hes a top bloke and im pissed that i couldnt fix it for him.
Hes not shy to help folks out so if anyone has an Nc 29 give him a yell , please.
    Cheers Paul.
