Hmmm, for some it would be like shooting fish in a barrel should they take a mind to start taking pot shots. (offensive or not)

I sincerely hope you're joking or just full of crap. Who really hates newbies, when it comes down to it? Sure, some aren't very good riders, but I'll bet that when you first started riding you weren't too crash hot either. We've all gotta start somewhere! If bikers were generally more supportive and encouraging to newbies we'd have more of them sticking with it and becoming good riders, graduating to bigger bikes, they'd be people you'd enjoy riding with... and in turn they'd help the next lot of newbies with their experience. Good for motorcycling as a whole. The guys who go out of their way to help newbies out, tolerate their torrent of questions and help them improve their riding, deserve much respect.

Those who don't have bikes and never will? Come on. Kitty has got a bike already. AJ would love one but currently cannot afford one, so makes do riding pillion. But she wants to get into biking, and this is how you'd encourage her, by telling her to piss off? Bugger that mate. Know them before you judge them.

Actually, mikey was pretty much the Man. When he started. It was all downhill from there, though.

    He does.

Sorry, dude. I'm with mikey on this one.

Then again, he and I tend to form congruent judgments. I could be biased.

I'm willing to stipulate, however, that a moderate No Doz overdose may be preventing me from making sense right now.

Okay, so he knows them. Suuure. He "knew" that Kitty didn't have a bike, right? She's had one for a while now. Sounds like he knows her really well. Another thing even if he had his facts straight... why the personal shots at them? Sure, you might be able to use them as examples, but that's below the belt unless you're intending on insulting them. I think it's no wonder that new riders feel so useless sometimes, when this sort of attitude is directed at them:

I'd like to ask how he'd feel if when he was a newbie he got this sort of crap chucked at him. It's so short sighted and ill thought out it makes me want to punch something. Not all newbies are idiotic, and some are actually pretty solid riders, but calling them useless just because they're new does nothing for motorcycling as a whole. Even if they aren't so good at riding yet, they'll improve, and helping them means they improve WAY faster too.

So you hate newbies too huh?

    No, not at all.

In fact, my post didn't really have anything to do with what it was ostensibly discussing.

Ummm. IIRC Mikey copped a showerload of shit when he first started.
And I to my motorcycle parked like the soul of the junkyard. Restored, a bicycle fleshed with power, and tore off. Up Highway 106 continually drunk on the wind in my mouth. Wringing the handlebar for speed, wild to be wreckage forever.

Personally I'd like to see the initiation change back to the way it used to be - a pleasant welcome, irrespective of whether or not you've started a thread with your first post that digs up a concept that's been done to death.

I haven't seen any real evidence of newbies getting shit unless they deserve it...particularly the some idiotic young guys who issue challenges with <3000kms riding experience and on their 20 yr old 250's...

I tire of all the 'me me me' bullshit from the odd non-riding member. Its all very well for a non-rider to come on here getting advice etc, but to use this site as their own friggin fan club is quite frankly embarrasing. Post pictures of yourself somewhere else.

...but then, its not my site, so i'll just deal.

Good points right there. I know there are some idiotic young guys doing just what you say above... and it's embarrassing to read let alone embarrassing to them - if they'd only realise it. So yes, some do deserve the shit they get. But to label all newbies as stupid, and not worth the effort gone to to help them become a better rider or the encouragement to keep at it... that pisses me off. How else are people supposed to get into biking, or to get better at it if there is only scorn for them? I'd have liked more support and encouragement when I first started out.

Good point about those non riding members too. Some non riding members are just bikers who haven't got a bike yet... but yeah some are just building a fan club, as you say. Still, if they get someone mouthing off in person about bikers, they're more likely to defend bikers having known some. And really, if females want to post pics of themselves, who are we to argue?

At least they generally gravitate to the extremely erudite and pithy comment thread that is LOTPIHGAD, apart from odd occasions when they venture forth to moan about their unfulfilled lives. There are times when I think that a web site with a name like "myspace.com" could be useful for these poor dears. But it probably wouldn't catch on.

    Uh?
    What's happened?
    Rules?
I thought KB was getting boringer and boringer.
So it has been taken over by those little men in the white coats?
You know the ones - the ones that try to make you park your bike on the soft ground at pukekohe track -and by their actions, beg you to run them over.

All organisations eventually enter a decline
I'm taking wagers on how long KB has left.
