I want to set a few things straight.

Firstly this is a solo effort, Hitcher, Joni and SPman have had no input into this thread, I'm going it alone because I feel there are some things that need to be said regarding some issues the site is facing.

No doubt all of you by now are aware of Ixion's thread, and have questions that you feel need answering. I can't promise to answer everyones questions, but I'll go as far as I can to clear some things up.

His decision to leave the site was his and his alone. For a long time now we have had some rules here at KB, rules that were set up by SpankMe, not the senior moderators. One of the major issues surrounding the rules has been consistancy. A lot of you have expressed that the rules were not being applied to all members, and therefore quite rightly felt wronged. SpankMe created these rules, and requested his team of moderators to use the infraction system to make sure they were being followed. This wasn't happening, and as the infraction system was not going to be dropped we (the SM's) needed to address the situation quickly, as it was affecting morale at the site.

During one of the discussions in the moderators forum Ixion made it quite clear that his view of moderating was far removed from that of all the other mod's, and from what SpankMe had requested. It was decided then that we would ask Ixion if he still wanted to moderate, as we felt his view's conflicted with what is expected of a moderator. A PM was sent to Ixion, to which he never replied. No, not even a 'Fuck you guys' or a 'yeah maybe you're right', nothing. After a period of approxiamately two weeks and still no response from Ixion, we were left with no other option than to remove him from moderating duties. A PM was sent, outlining the situation and encouraging him to stay at the site as we see him as a valued member of KB. And still we got no response, that is until last night with his rather one-sided attack on Hitcher and the rest of the 'elite'...

As I said, it is his decision to leave. He was not pushed, he had ample opportunity to talk to us about it but choose not to. Motu also deciding to leave is for his own reasons.

It seems a lot of people here feel the responsibility of the site falls solely on the moderators. I'm afraid to tell you this but it falls on all of us. This site is nothing without its members, and by that I mean the personality of the site is a direct result of what we all post here. People moan about the amount of 'crap' posts on the forums, and not enough bike topics. Well you have the power to change that, not the moderators. I watch the forums every day, and I see a lot of threads about motorcycling in general, from reviews to request for help, to stories about recent adventures. So if you're feeling that the forum is losing its direction, YOU can do something about it.

    Moving on a little now.

Since SpankMe made his announcement no new rules have been introduced, so where do a lot of you guys get the idea that we are responsible for new rules etc? All we have done is try to address one of the issues brought up to us, consistancy. And as soon as we do that we get attacked. There is no 'major clean-up' of the site going on, no members being pushed out. There is no restrictions on freedom of speech (other than abusive posts, one of SpankMe's rules), no infractions for swearing, taking the piss, having fun.

Regarding banned members, there has only been one (1) banned user (other than aliases). This member was banned by SpankMe, not the senior mod's. As the site is still SpankMe's, this ruling remains. Other members have been sinbinned, they can still post, they can still particapate. We have no intentions of 'banning' any members unless forced to. If a sinbinned member chooses not to post, thats their decision.

I'm looking forward to your input on this thread. We are all here for the same reason, bikes and friendship. So lets try to get on with it.

Thank you OAB, very well put - as always better than I ever could...

OAB may be speaking for himself, but I stand right behind everything he has said in this thread. Well done!

KB is a moving community, things change from time to time, it does not mean we cannot still enjoy it - it just means a little flexibility to move with the times... just like life.

    Im here.
    I love this place...
I love the friends it has brought me, and of course my partner.

I look forward to things settling and the site continuing to be the great place it is.

Yeah, you're doing a good and thankless job, except for now...

    Thanks mods!

Well said matey..........I thought us POMS were the whingers!!

I have no reason to disbelieve you regarding Ixion and it just sounds like he is being very childish and to me it simply diminishes all the good that he did on the site.

The only constant is change and this site will continue to evolve with or without the the likes of Ixion....I seem to recall that about a year ago the number of registered members was around the 4,000 mark and this has doubled so something must be right about the site.

I too enjoyed posts with Ixion, however, his decision is his and his alone and I just hope that he has a re-think and comes back.

    yep agreed well said OAB.
It is sometimes hard to know who to believe when all we get is one side of the story, thanks for filling in the gaps.

Those few lines echo my thoughts pretty closely. I wouldn't keep coming here if I didn't enjoy it. I'm sad to see Ixion and Motu leave, but OAB's post goes some way to explaining why - well writ my friend. I'll continue to lurk as long as I'm welcome. KB is a place I do feel welcome, apart from one serial red repper who has pissed me off to the point he has now earned the honour of being the first ever KBer I have put on ignore. Now I don't see his reps any more. Good sodding riddance, I can now move forward to enjoying my time on KB again.

    Rules

I think this site is great and I have to say I am not completely sure what the rules are! I know of the thread "Abuse of fellow members "
Is this one of the rules or the only rule??
I can understand there needs to be some governing to reflect the intentions of the owner. Is there a change this can be confirmed and made a little more obvious. Is there one rule or several?

It appears a rather sad and dissappointing end to a staunch and passionate contributor. He has made his decision, I hope the door remains open but we move on. I view the site daily and contribute where i can (not often) and seek help when i think members can assist. There is some material that I consider inappropriate and simply unnecessary for a site that is for the biker community (as diverse as it is). It should not be open slather and I think the mods or whoever do the best they can. blah blah... keep doing the job you are doiong to the best of your abilty and that is all one can expect. if others can do it better then step forward.

Thanks for the explanation OAB, that certainly clarifies the issues for me.

I dont get all this talk about the site changing blah blah blah stuff... Probably because I havent been a member for very long.

The reasons I log on are:
    1. To catch up with friends.
    2. To organise rides or to annoy people until they ride with me.
    3. To ask and get help for any problems I might be having with the bike/riding etc.
    4. To read informing threads, that might help me become a better rider.
    5. And to laugh at some of the sillyness that goes on in KB.
    6. Get lots of encouragement.... and mostly from people I dont even know... thats Awesome.

And I get all that and MORE!!!!

If I dont like what someone has posted I just ignore it... its easy. I didnt even realise anything had changed with the mods until everyone started mentioning it... I still dont get it.

Anyway, I have meet alot of nice people on KB, lots of cool interesting personailities .... I really dont have a problem with anyone, guess my tolerance is quite high? Its almost like someone has died, its depressing. I hate those.... "Goodbye Threads".

Change, like death and taxes, is a fact of life. In the several years I have been contributing to this site, some things have changed, some things have not. The most important thing that has not changed is a shared love of the addiction for which there is no cure: Motocycles.

Colourful characters have come and gone, sometimes with grace and dignity, sometimes in a short sharp shower of shit and shingle. But other new characters are emerging.

Resident prophet Mikey hit the nail squarely on the head when he declared that "Kiwi Biker is full of love, and disrespect". As long as the disrespect is in good humour, long may this continue.
