What do I need to look for? I mean I know it's a web cam so it's not going to be flash (picture quality) but what do I need to know?

Depends on how much one has to spend?

Starting around $50 to $300.
The cheaper ones don't have very great sound quality and the pix may appear jumpy, suitable for spyke or chat.

Any computer shop will be able to sort you out for that.
try Dick Smith or Harvey Norman or even tardme once you have found something you like. one is bound to find it cheaper there than in a shop.

Cheaper ones won't have a microphone inbuilt, but that's not necessarily a bad thing, as using a headset will help prevent feedback anyway. Still, if you haven't got a headset but do have headphones, an inbuilt mic is useful.
Look for one that will take a 1.3MP still, they pretty well all do 640 x 480 moving. Really depends on whether or not you want a decent one or just any old one. If you're wanting decent, can't go past Logitech. I've got a Quickcam Communicate (who comes up with these names, anyway?). Cost me about $100 or so, and it's been excellent. Built in mic, 1.3MP still etc etc. It just uses a USB port. Avoid Genius IMO, I had to return one due to horrific software issues. Bastard wouldn't install, attempting it would freeze any computer I tried it on.
Hope this helps.

Pricespy is good... have a squizz HERE, there are numerous starting as low as $18 (of course, you'd be buying that and then just dropping it in the trash can outside the store...)

DSE have their moments but they arnt all bad, and their specials are often pretty good.
As has been said pretty much any local computer store should be able to hook you up (in welly Quay, Atech, Infinite Technology are all decent). You'll probably get it cheaper off pricespy thou.
