Just watching the propaganda box with Mrs Lobster..

Not only has the presenter been harping on about how bad it is that people don't have sympathy for Mrs Obese and her switched off her machine..

But now we've got another obese man complaining about his gran's overflowing toilet in her flat. It's done it for thirty years, by all accounts.

Obvously, it isn't a good thing.

BUT, why are there so many stories about how hard done by brown people are? Aren't they embarassed about being made to look like they're charity cases, worthy of sympathy?

Well by all accounts the `brown people' in the case of the switched-off breathing machine did have jobs, at least the guy did. The woman had to give up her job (diploma in early-childhood education, or summat?) after she got sick. This was from the propaganda box (Campbell is usually fairly reasonable, however).

But yes... we have seriously low unemployment here right now; this means it should be damned easy to get a job. I work part-time in a restaurant; believe me, restaurants are finding it bloody hard to find staff right now. We advertised for aaaages to find new waitresses/waiters and had to settle for some new staff who'd never worked before, and who require quite a lot more training than we'd desired. I would imagine there's plenty of people on the dole (that is, the dole dole, not sickness beneficiaries or what have you) who could quite easily not be.

This is the problem nowadays. When the benefit was first developed people had too much pride to go on it. People did not want charity and to be seen as losers

Today it is socially acceptable to be on the dole and be a loser. We are expected to throw our hands in the air in collective dispair at the plight of these poor unfortunates, followed by increased government handouts and support programs.

That was not the intention of my original posting. Namely, why is that the media keeps showing us brown people that are incapable of paying their bills on time, and people that can't sort out a leaking toilet in thirty years.

Why don't they show brown people that are making something of themselves? Why not feature brown people in the news that are successful?

I may have only been in the country five minutes, but it does seem to me that the media here is forever putting them down.

That grandson really camped it up. I liked the bit where he basicly said "my beautiful nana shouldn't have to die because of that toilet". Never heard of a few human terds washing up on the floor killing people. Three hours (no power) then dead - thirty years living with a stink bathroom, totally comparable.
