What an absolutely f**king awesome day.

I had a good ride over the hill (I took my 1000), I rode by myself as Hamish was riding with a couple of our mates. On the way to the sprints road I did a few little bursts on some of the straights to get myself "in the groove". Got up to 180 (I know that's not fast for most of you guys but I don't often get up there so I wanted to be mentally prepared).

I was first to sign on, but chose #9, as I didn't want to be one of the first to do a run. (In hindsight a good choice, as the first couple of runs the timing gear didn't work so the guys had to come back to do their runs again.)

The weather was perfect, sunny and no wind.

I had decided to only do the flying quarters, not the standings (too hard on my bike/clutch and too hard to get a perfect start without bogging or wheelstanding).

My first run I didn't accelerate hard enough, and I changed into top too early, so by the time I got to the start line I was only showing just over 180 on the speedo. I normally change between 5000 and 6000, so it was a bit unusual for me to be revving through to almost 8000 before changing.

Even though I knew I hadn't gone that fast, it was such a BUZZ - at the regroup point my hands were physically shaking, and my knees were a bit weak. It was wonderful.

My second run I accelerated harder, and didn't change into top till 7500 (I think - there's not a lot of time to take your eyes off the road to focus on the instruments!!) I did see that the needle was over 200kph - that had been my aim for the day. The timing gear got me at 192kph - I'm rapt. I've changed my front sprocket from a 15 to a 14 tooth, so that will cut my potential top speed down a bit anyway.

They then had a lunch break instead of doing a third run straight away. I was hot hot hot, I had four layers of thermals on, plus my jacket liner, and I was just cooking. My mates were heading to Martinborough for lunch, so I decided I'd not do another run.

Figjam: good to meet you - great that you rode all the way down from Auckland for this event!

I know that most of you blokes did far faster times/speeds than me, but I did this for myself, not to prove anything to anyone - and I had such a great day, I really did. It was just amazing.

Thanks for all the pictures posted, and I'll watch the videos at work (first thing, before I've officially started work!)

It was great to see a good KB turnout - sorry I didn't get to talk with most of you.

What a great weekend of motorcycling - Manfeild Saturday, the sprints on Sunday, and Monday night I'll be watching the Superbikes from Imola that I taped.

And hey - if they'd had a "first female" trophy for the sprints, I'd have won it!!!
(to be honest, I don't need a trophy anyway, I enjoyed it so much that was my prize!!)

Life doesn't get much better than this.

    With a pathetic launch.

See Dean, takes a Suzuki rider to get the best from a Honda. Nice speedo though, pity it was reading 293. Which is about 30k opptomistic.

    Is that a record?
The 264kph (true speed) was an average over the last 400, so you may have been going slightly quicker at the end - I recall seeing about 274 at the first trap but 285 at the end.

10kgs lighter and also leaner (just), that has got to be good for at least 8kph.......well thats my story and Im sticking to it.

It sounded glorious going past at that speed anyways. Im glad I let you have a go. Pity Jimbo wasn't keen - scared of the mighty Honda ??? So much for you Suzuki riders eh ?

I liked the sound of Hayden's Gixxer thou at full noise - it was howling.

    What an awesome day.

Had a good day as well, it was good to see so many turn out, about 40 bikes entered in total. I would have introduced myself to a few people but didn't know who you were.

I did 2 standing and 2 flying 1/4's. Best runs were a 11.87 standing 1/4, beating my previous personal best by a good bit, and clocked 237kph on the flying 1/4, although the speedo was right at the end of the dial reading 160mph (256km?).

Fantastic weather as well, I almost got sunburnt. Congrats to the Wairarapa crew for organising a great day. Also cheers to Jimbo for looking after my gear while i was out.

But was that you, or the crap VTR clutch (a widely acknowledged problem)? On mine, I can't give it heaps taking off, as it grabs/slips/squeals like a stuck pig/grabs/slips etc...
Probably just as well, as this morning it was wheelieing like a mofo (or I was riding like a wanker), so if I'd been able to power it off the line it probably would've flipped.
Must be about time I had some Barnett springs stuck in my VTR, if not the whole Barnett clutch.
    ... and that's what I think.

    Or summat.

    Or maybe not...

    Dunno really....

Lucky bastard... I was running out of talent - there was PLENTY of room left!

I did hit 270 though, scared the shit out of me... (actualy... re-reading that, maybe it was 250... I THINK it were 270...)

Is there one of these events in Auckland anywhere, ever? I would be in like a robber's dog!

    how long is Meremere??

I'm keen to get down there one weekend and show the rice boys how to spend some smart money instead of wasting it on ugly bits of chrome.

So was there a guy there with a CBR924?? Maybe he was too busy doing 220 past some more cop cars.

Sounds like you guys had a good day. Anyone know when the next ones are? Might be keen to go.

I'd like to blame my clutch, but the problem wasn't the bike

Yeah - that's true for a standing 1/4 mile but my personal preference (and curiosity) is just sheer top speed of the RF.

I'd like to request the Northbound lanes of the Southern MW get closed off at the top of the Bombays, and opened again at... hmmm... Whangarei?

Perhaps Papatoe would be a more realistic option...

Results in a week. next run 28 Nov.

The organiser told me today that he may take a week to get the results up on the web (www.cdd.co.nz/sprint).
Next event is Sunday 28 November. Same place, same time, same channel, different weather, maybe.
K14- there was a CBR954 there. No such thing as a CBR924 or did you mean CBR929?
